ANAMBRA CENTRAL: INEC INTEGRITY AT STAKE by ejioforjm(m): 6:59am On Mar 20, 2017 |
Anambra Central Senatorial District remains the only senatorial district out of 109 senatorial district in Nigeria which still has no senator representing the senatorial district in the National Assembly. It is very unfortunate because the people of this senatorial district have been denied a representation in the Senate in all the businesses of the National Assembly that impacts on the lives of citizens of this country. The Court of Appeal, which is the final court vested with the authority and jurisdiction to decide on all matters relating to National Assembly matters had on 7th of December, 2015; nullified Anambra Central senatorinal election and ordered a fresh election. The PDP, instead of accepting their fate that they will no longer participate in the election, their candidate having been disqualified by the decision of the Court of Appeal had decided to use frivolous actions to frustrate that rerun election from taking place according to law. On the 10th of February 2017, the Supreme Court in a unanimous judgement affirmed that decision of the ‘Court of Appeal' was final in all aspects over the dispute relating to that Anambra Central senatorial rerun election. In the words of one of the justices of the Supreme court “the order made by the Court of Appeal on the matter remains final forever; it cannot be revisited by anybody”. INEC, which was a party in all the proceedings both at the Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court are very much aware that the matter has come to a final rest. INEC should not be misguided by an order made by a High Court in flagrant disobedience to a subsisting order of the Court of Appeal, which was affirmed by the Supreme Court on February 10th 2017. INEC should not be deceived by an order made by a High Court in conspicuous disregard to the decision of the Supreme Court in 2009 (Labour Party vs INEC) that regulates the conduct of rerun election. INEC has every authority under the law to conduct Anambra Central senatorial rerun election without the candidate of the PDP.

comos: If you have one example of a serving minister who was holding his position while contesting for a political position, say it, otherwise close your mouth. A political appointee cannot hold office while seeking elective political position. |
