How do you normally feel whenever you see those young and smart Nigeria’s youths dressed in their NYSC Uniform normally known as Khakis? You admire their outfits, right? I always feel the same few years back. But today, I have worn that Khaki and jungle boots for one year, and now it is a story. Truly, time wait for no man. And I want to believe, we all know that NYSC is not the end of life neither a bed of roses. I must confess that the ‘One Year of National Youth service Corps’ is the beginning of our individual life.

To avoid being on the negative side of Nigeria situation after service year, whether you are a Corp member, you are still an undergraduate or you are yet to secure admission but you know for sure that one day you will become a Corp member there are some things you need to have at the back of your mind to keep going, We heard from our parents that in the past, in this same country, people go to School, Graduate, finish their NYSC and start working immediately, but now reverse is the case. Considering what is happening in our Nation today, it is expected of every youth to be bordered about what the future is holding for him or her. So a question which every Corps member (and every youth) should ask him or herself is what the future holds for me or what next after my one year NYSC Program?

It is an indisputable fact that the expectation of ninety percent graduate before gaining admission is that after one year of NYSC program, he or she will get a good job and start living a comfortable life. Coming to think of it from another angle we all knew the current economic situation (recession) of the the country, you can image the monthly allowance is nothing to write home about because, before the end of the month you have spent times two of the money. So, If we must be sincere with ourselves, we would all agree that there is a great need for what is called ‘plan B’ in a country like Nigeria of today.

One of the reason why NYSC introduced Skills Acquisition And Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program giving every corps member the privilege to learn certain skills at no cost during the orientation course in the camp, is to prepare you ahead of the future challenges and also encourage you that in the absence of white cola job, you can achieve something great just with your little saving. Here are some of the things you can do during your service year or after your service year.

1. Discover Your Talent:

A Talent is the skill that someone naturally has to do something with ease and doing it better. It is an ability that someone is born with. If you are especially good at something, you have a talent. You can have a talent for singing or a talent for getting others to talk about themselves, or when you are talking people always like to listen. Discover your talent today and convert it to money.

2. Develop Yourself:

Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending. For the first few months after service, most will remain very idle and will have nothing doing. These first few months can be used in personal development of one’s self. Mentally, Physically, and in all ramification. Pick a skill and learn more about it, Pick up the books you have been procrastinating to read and read up. There are various books out there that can be used to develop yourself. From inspirational to spiritual to business and lots more. If already you have what you good at, you can as well develop on it.
3. Search for Job:

You can agree with me that you can not sit at the confort of your home and get a job. Do not fold your arms. Your future is in your read more...
