Much as i wouldnt have liked to post anything political on Christmas day, apart from 'merry Christmas!!!', it seems this next week will be very 'dramaful
Jonathan asked four ministers to stay behind to cater to the energy needs of nigerians, Lukman, odein(petroleum), babalola, wayas (power)
Lukman however has decided to vacay in vienna, Austria. Check it yourself, and await the unfolding drama, like me grin

No one will respect Jonathan because he has acted like a total boy-boy in the past. The damage has been done. It is now too late for guys like Lukman, Ruma, Yayale , et al to see him as anything other than an errand boy who always did as told .

We all know that deputies in nigeria are picked to act as boy-boy where the boss's grip is not in any form threatened. This gets even worse when the boss is a mallam, ask Ekueme how shagari regime made him a total bench warmer.

I know Lukman is an old man who has seen it all and would probably not care if he is replaced. However I think a lot of us are underrating Jonathan. Just watch what he will do with power for one year when he assumes full control.

People have got to realise who Rilwan Lukman is. He has been in government circles since like forever. I first heard his name as far back as 88/89 when we used to 'cram' all the ministers and governors. He was Petroleum minister then if my memory serves me right, that was under the IBB regime. He has also served as OPEC chairman for so many years and he is an old man. In his own right and prolly in his head, people like Goodluck, Turai and even President Yaradua were in 'diapers' when he was serving the country.

Ofcourse that doesn't give him the right to defy the VP but we all know Nigerians and our ego problem. He is prolly thinking ''who is Goodluck to tell him how to spend his holiday?''. It was the same Lukman who told us whether Nigerians like it or not, whether Labour likes it or not, we will have deregulation and isn't it happening?

Nothing will come our of it to be honest because the worst FG can do is to sack him. Unlikeother ministers, I am not sure Lukman cares if he is sacked or not infact the way successive governments have been hanging on to him, it seems when it comes to that ministry, he is the best the country can offer.

True! Lukman seems to wield some very influential influence not just locally, but internationally too. He strikes me as someone that does not need the 'albatross' called Nigeria to survive so i cant understand why he holds on to that ministerial position. He should resign before he is sacked or embarassed.

However, i am waiting to see what Jonathan et al will do, now that he has disobeyed!

He has fallen into the trap of the constituitionally powerless VP. He is one of Nigeria's untouchables who is present at every vulture party.

Lukman is the most corrupt bureaucrat Nigeria can find. He has oil wells and is probably involved in enough illegalities to make IBB look holy. The man has been the conduit for the oligarchs and ex-generals whose fingers are always clutching our petroleum jugular.

E don fall mugu. Andoakaa next, then Ibori. . .

Jonathan does not have executive power, he did not appoint a single minister, so in effect he cannot hire or fire a discerning and culpable minister for erring.
Re: Drama Awaits As Lukman Defies Jonathan by MrCrackles(m): 12:48pm On Dec 25, 2009
Rilwanu Lukman seems to be a veteran, a bit of a force that cant be pushed back easily. . . .
Not sure about the rest but it will be interesting to see what Jonathan will do
Jonathan himself has so far being a bit of an effigy with no flipping idea about what is going on around him so it will be interesting. . . .
Re: Drama Awaits As Lukman Defies Jonathan by 4Play(m): 1:03pm On Dec 25, 2009
In the spirit of the rotational Presidency, Jonathan should resign and make way for a Northerner. There is an implicit understanding that the Presidency is to be rotated every 8 years from North to South.

No doubt he is an experienced old hand but the most important factor here is that Lukman had wanted to step down earlier , citing age and family commitment, but Yar Adua begged him to stay and midwife the deregulation excercise to a stage where someone else can take over . The latest news before Yardy became ill was that Lukman would go in January 2010. January is only a few days away. Lukman would probably be one of those privy to info about Yar Adua's real state of health . If he feels Yar Adua is not coming back anytime soon , and given the lack of continuity from one government to another, the Petroleum Minister may just not give a toss anymore.

This is another example of Yar Adua's ineptitude i.e bringing in a totally jaded and cynical pair of old hand where vigour , focus, dynamism and hunger are the required qualitied a Petroleum Minister should possess if he wants to convince Nigerians of the merits of deregulation. So far Lukman has been nonchalant and indifferent- almost as if he is being forced to act as Minister . With his boss gone , plus the fact he probably does not respect the VP, he might actually be throwing down the Gauntlet to Jonathan.

I read somewhere a few months ago that he's still keen on stepping down sometime in the new year. . . .
I think you are right regarding Lukman not "giving a toss anymore"
I have a feeling he will be resigning sometimes in 2010

Lukman and his ilk should be tried and jailed. They have been at the forefront of mega corruption in the country.

Now, there lies the problem. Untill that letter is written from the president to the national assembly and confirmed by the same set of people, Jonathan will still remain as VP and not acting president. i wonder what is still delaying after 30+ days of the president's absence. [b]HE IS STILL VP

As long as out fate as a country lies in the hands of these over-recycled government
people like Lukman, we shall continue to have fuel supply shortages, import refined fuel
in the absence of functional refineries, flare gas wastefully and against our environment and
watch a syndicate making billions controlling the importation of fuel. He neednt return to Nigeria.

even if jonathan become president, he would still not have power. Obasanjo was there for 8 years, what did he do for the south. All project went to the north. I dont see any different. The only solution is Benin republic.
