We call ourselves xtian and we claim to have been in the best churches in the world. We attend church service every sunday and even week days and we pay our tithes every months. But in our heart I ask, are we a practicing xtian? For me, I am not but by God grace I am.

Sorry sister, nicodemus was never a christain. The bilble made it clear in the book of John 3:1-21, that he was a  pharisee, a member of the jewish ruling council and then jesus never saw the Pharisees as his follower, he saw them a hypocites (Mathew 23:23-33).
From the bible teaching, there is nothing like a born again christain. The word born again christain came into play, becoz today we see the word christian as a mere religion(i belong) and not a way of life. Many confesses to be christain but does not profess christainity. That is why the word 'born again' came into play to make the separation between those who live a life of christ, as in the original meaning of christian and those who jst answer christian becoz they were born in a christian family and bears a christiain names.
If you read the book of Acts 11:26 you will discover the origin of the word christian, meaning 'Christ-like' or 'christ people' if translated directly from the Original Hebrew word 'christia noi'. So from the meaning and origin of the word christain, you cannot say you are a christian and not born agian. It simply implies that either you are christian or you are not. If you say you are christain, and  you dont live your life as christ did, born of the water and of the spirit(born again), then what are you? A PHARISEE(hypocrites).

This is jst the mistake of today's churches , and these mistake watered down the power and meaning of that word Christian. If you are jst sunday a church goer, like the pharisees never missed going to the temple, and follow all the church doctrins like the pharisees followed all laws, and you do not accept christ as lord and personal saviour, do not follow his teaching of salvation, what makes you christian? The person is nothing but a hypocirtes and not a christain. Is like saying you are doctor, but have not undergo any medical practices, the actual procedure it takes to become a doctor. Does confessing yourself as a doctor makes you a doctor?

I asked you to read the book of (Mathew 23:23-33).
You will see how Jesus christ analysed the acts of the pharisee. if there were christians why did jesus said "woe unto you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former".
The pharisees were never christains. In fact, the did not accept many teaching of jesus christ. Was it not the same Scribs and pharisee that sentenced him to death becoz they said his teaching was contrary to the laws of Moses. Eg.healing on the sabbath day, Harvesting on the sabbath day and preaching himself as the king of kings etc.

Read my initial post, I started by saying, there has being a lot of missunderstanding of this word christian. Many people see christainity just as a religion you can just belong to by the virtue of of birth, and self decision, jst as every other religion. Christainity, by the origin and definition is not just a church goer. In fact let keep the bible origin. Wikipedia defined christian as

You are not getting my point, what i was trying to say with my previous post is that in our society now, ANYONE WHO GOES TO CHURCH OR CLAIM TO BE A CHRISTIAN IS GROUPED AND CALLED A CHRISTIAN. but that's wrong, as you already said which i also share, Christianity has to be someone who lives a Christ-like lifestyle.

since our society does not know the difference between a christian who accepts Jesus and his teachings with someone who attends church or calls himself/herself a christian without accepting Jesus or being born again. hence the reason why people emphasize the word "born again" when trying to address any issue that has to do with being a true christian. hope i was able to clarify myself?

Pentecostal? i don't worship the church or the pastor, i worship God and try to live a Christ lifestyle, one of the major reasons why i attend a pentecostal church is that they are not as worse as the rest of the denominations in interpreting the bible.

Many definitions of a Christian here are including church-going. You can be a Christian without going to church, just as you can pass SSCE and JAMB without attending extramural classes (as long as you study by yourself). But many people are too dull to search the scriptures, so they are Sunday-Sunday Christians, swallowing everything said there like fast-food.

Do not neglect the company of the brethren, I know, but where is the company of the brethren? Is it only in church? In case you didn't know, the whole society is your church, just like how it was for Jesus. And there are enough churches in Nigeria: only few churches are ever filled to the brim on Sundays, yet they want to keep building churches like how a fungus spreads. We're to spread the gospel like a virus, not spread concrete or mud & thatch buildings like the fruits of an epidemic. Did Jesus ask us to build churches?
