That pierced the air
Gave way to silence
As the clocks chimed

Long nights of screams
That almost healed the deaf
Seemed to be drawing close

But the tress refused

Feet that would have danced
Quietly moved away
Treading the hard earth
As if it was borne of glass

Only a whimpering sound
That came from the room

still as the baby born
