What do you mean by conversion and verification of your documents before traveling?

What do you mean by conversion and verification of your documents before traveling?
conversion to the supposed country's standard you are traveling to. Like most schools in North America use a CGP of 4 as against ours which is 5.
Also, there are some renowned educational services that verifies documents such as results and transcript. Examples are World Education Service, ECFMG etc
Some countries even need the ministry of foreign affairs in your country to verify your school documents.

Please it's very wrong travelling with all these documents, Infact any document at all.

first of all, you should ask yourself a question ; why am I visiting US?
if you're visiting US for a change of location, then don't try it at all except you want to buy gala and coke when you land at any Nigeria International airport. You know what I mean.

What if at the Point of entry, the immigration official searches you and discovers any of these documents, what would be your fate and when you're asked to return back to Nigeria, you go begin call village people whereas na you do yourself.

Most importantly, your entry into the US is of paramount necessity so don't joke with it. They're other better ways of possessing your documents.

I have all my important documents in a folder. It includes my birth certificate, WAEC, Bachelors, Masters, etc. I have the folder with me when I am outside Nigeria. I call my folks if I need some other documents I don't have such as PCC.
Thank you. Have u ever Needed the Birth certificate for anything? If yes, what pls? And could a Decleration of Age have sorted it out or was it strictly Birth Certificate? Thanks again.

Thank you. Such info as this is of great value. Question: is it safe to say that the school cert/transcripts would be Needed mainly by those interested in applying for job or school? Assuming one is already well-to-do as in, ure established so ur interests are just in things like acquiring property or owning business, I dont see the absence of these documents (school certificate and transcript) posing a hassle, do u?

You are welcome! No one has asked for my birth certificate outside Nigeria. When I was in the UK, I was told employers have no right to request the date of birth of a job applicant/employee to avoid discrimination based on age. I understand the best an employer can do is to infer the age from the date on the educational program. I reckon it is same here in Canada. There is no harm in carrying it if you have it, afterall you will have other original documents like you WAEC certificate. If you don't have a birth certificate, then carry your declaration of age.

NB: The documents you will carry depends on your purpose for travelling. If I am travelling for a visit, I will only go with my passport and travel documents. If I will be traveling to study or look for a job, I go "armed" with my folder.

Hello Chascop, you make a good point. However, you do know that theres a big difference between trying to "retrieve" ur documents and trying to "process" a document from abroad, right? So in order to avoid the hassle of trying to PROCESS a document from abroad, one cud make a check list of everything one Might Need, then obtain them from the relevant authorities BEFORE leaving - not necessarily taking them along. Hope that clarifies the subject. Thanks for that advice though.

Not at all but you might want to do some certification program especially as regards business. so its better to be ready when these are needed than been boxed in a corner. If eventually you ddon't use them, no qualms cos getting your transcript and certificate from Nigeria while abroad is herculean

This one na long process... you can scan and save your documents in your mail box and later ask for the original to be mailed to you if need be. It's not a must to even travel with these for visiting.
BTW, na only US be abroad ni?

Get your police clearance certificate from state divisional hq. It is also called the non-criminal record cert. The original comes in a pink paper. Then go to the Embassy Consulate of the country you are trying to an authenticate it.

However, this certificate is only valid for 6 months. After that, you need a new one. Just get one anyways.

Also if you have worked for some reasonable amount of time, get your "Proof of Employment" letter from your company. Company letter head, your profile, your position, your roles etc all written, stamped and signed with contactable telephone number.

That's all I can add. Goodluck!

Vicky biko leave story o. Shey Canada does not handle its immigrants well ni, abi do we suffer the kind of "immigro-bastardisation" that the USA suffers everyday even with all their anti-immigration attitude? Not at all. Canada is friendly yet theyve taken SMART precautions to curtail bastardisation. This helps the economy while keeping the country stable/safe. The swiss are just being overcautious - they need a chill pill or some Jamaican ganja angry

Anyway, ehen u Said I shud be humble first abi. I can do that. I can whip, nae nae, do stanky leg, breakdance, shoki, summersault for u, while u just sit with ur legs crossed, watching, smiling and sipping ur favorite tea. I can even sing Who Am I by Casting crowns for u perfectly from A to Z on a karaoke machine without glancing at the lyrics (cos I already know it by heart) just because I figured u like the song too. So u see, I'll be humble. Will u teach me now? smiley

lol. E serious like that? I never reach Switz see sha, so I no sabi how their immigration law be. But truth be told sha, Canada is kinda friendly with their immigration procedure. Ofcourse I was joking when I said "na only my signature dem collect" but its almost like that. Cos I was only asked for my passport at POE. Nothing more, with all the documents wey I pack for my file. embarassed Their criminal background check also wouldn't stress your life.

I can relate to this your point though "Trying to join an exclusive organisation/association/community etc.". When I wanted to join a Voluntary Organization BBBS (Non-Profit Org) they had to do a background check from back home, Had to get about 4 referees from back home to sign, and all. Dem do background check for almost 3 months, before they signed me in. I was like, na Volunteer I wan do, no be job fa. cheesy cheesy That's the only time I knew they stressed me.

lol. let's start with summersault first. And then you move to Karaoke, and sing Who Am I? Then, and maybe just then, I will confirm that you are humble, and will teach you. cool

Great! I may visit Montreal later in the year. I heard it is about 5 hours drive from here.

Nice cheesy I took a French class last winter but I have not had much time to learn this year. Yes. They speak English and French here unlike QC that is majorly French. If you visit a government office here, they greet you "hello bonjour", your reply determines the language that will be spoken to you.

Nice! Not so far! I think it depends on where you are coming from in NB and where you are going to in Québec. Saint John to Québec City is about 6 hours. While Saint John to Montréal is about 7 or 8 hours.

Yea me too, took Winter and Fall last year. Hopefully, will continue classes in Summer. There's this App that's been helping me learn daily too. "Duolingo" and the fact that I really dont mind if I make mistakes, cheesy I try to communicate in French these days. grin
NB is the only province in Canada, with English and French as official languages. Makes life pretty easy! lol.
Although, here as well, the western side of Montréal often uses the Bonjour/hello greeting. But Eastern side, Youre on your own, unless you tell them "Je comprend pas". Also, the more you move up north Québec, the harder it is to find people who communicate in English.

Have you been to NB? I am in Freddy. I had Duolingo installed in my previous phone last year and used to learn at least once a week but my schedule has been overloaded this year so I have not learnt at all angry Your French should have improved significantly since you are taking classes and live in Quebec. I will try the best I can later in the year. Hopefully, I will improve my French vocabulary grin
