y | 8xy | 24y^2

2 | 8 | 24y

2 | 4 | 12y

2 | 2 | 6y

1 | 1 | 3y

The explanation goes thus, we look for the common letter or figure that can go through the two given figure and the first "number/figure" we got was letter "y". After factoring "y", we were left with '24y' and '8'.

When dealing with HCF, we must start with the smallest number that goes through the given figures and in this situation we have number '2'. You have to do this continuously until you get to a point where no number can go through the given figure. As can be seen above, the number '2' was factored three times after which we stopped.

I hope you got it

8(xy) = 1,2,4,and 8. (x,y)
24(y)^2= 1,2,3,4,8,12,and 24.(y.y)
Therefore d h.c.f= 8.
I don try here oya finish from there

Am not that cleared. how u came with that 8y as an answer?

8(xy) = 1,2,4,and 8. (x,y) 24(y)^2= 1,2,3,4,8,12,and 24.(y.y) Therefore d h.c.f= 8. The answer is 8 because d 24y^2 doesnot has only y but not x. The ans is 8
yea I understand this one. thanks

Look below

8y = 2*2*2*y
24y^2 = 2*2*2*3*y*y

when 24y^2 and 8y are being factored, what do you discovered?

You clearly see that 2*2*2*y was common as of such the HCF Will be 8y.

I hope you get it now
