Ohanaeze will sue FG over S/East, S/South marginalisation - Nwodo

The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo says it has concluded plans to sue the Federal Government over the deliberate marginali­sation of Igbo in fed­eral appointments.
Ohanaeze’s Pres­ident-General, Dr. Nnia Nwodo, dropped the hints on Tuesday at the end of the national executive meeting of the organ­isation at the group’s National Secretariat in Enugu.
Nwodo said that Ohanaeze had con­stituted a committee of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) to initiate the legal ac­tion against the Fed­eral Government on the lopsided of ap­pointments against the South-East and South-South zones in the country..
According to him, the presidential ap­pointments made since the current Fed­eral Government was inaugurated showed a patently discrimina­tory attitude towards the South East and South-South states as well as a complete violation of the Nige­rian Constitution on Federal Character.
He said: “We are constituting a com­mittee of Senior Ad­vocates of Nigeria (SAN) from Oha­naeze states to initiate an action against the Federal Government on the issue of these federal appointments. We have copies of the appointments report­ed so far in the media for you to peruse.
“We have instruct­ed the legal adviser of Ohanaeze to write rel­evant agencies of the Federal Government under the Freedom of Information Act to confirm or deny these statistics.
“Very disturbing is the brazen and il­legal termination of the Chief Executive of PENCOM in com­plete violation of the rules of her engage­ment and the statute governing appoint­ments into that or­ganisation-simply be­cause she is from the South East,” he stated.
Nwodo also con­demned the stringent bail granted the lead­er of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnam­di Kanu, saying that his bail conditions were unprecedented in the judicial history of Nigeria.

It will be a very interesting case. I am looking forward to seeing how the court will rule on the critical issue of federal character reflection in presidential appointments. This is a more acceptable way of agitating against marginalisation than the ignoble route that Nnamdi Kanu took initially.

As an outsider or social media observer, your concern sound good. But that was Ohaneze communique. You can't attend tribal meetings with someone from say Ogwashi uku, Obigbo, Ikwerre and then exclude their interest from the communique to please someone from say Benin, Itshekiri etc

That is why the term south south is meaningless as far as ethno geopolitics is concerned.
