Hey folks. I truly love the travel section here. I have read stuffs from visa applications, interviews, POE experiences to vacation experiences etc., but never really found threads solely dedicated to people's international flight experiences.

So let's have it folks. Share your experiences with any airlines you've ever travelled with internationally - booking, in-flight entertainment (food, drinks, comfort, movies, restroom, etc), cabin crew/hostesses, stopover/layover (hotel), general customer service, outbound/connecting flight delays, flight cancellations (by you or them), luggages (checking in, missing, delayed, retrieval), ANY experience you had in connection with any airline be it before boarding, in-flight, during stopovers, or at the end of the journey.

I am yet to have an international flight experience but I know a lot of you here have so much to share to guide those of us that will be getting our first experiences soon.

Flown on Emirates, very expensive (though fare not on my bill). Boarded the bastard airline just twice (return ticket).

Onboard services and refreshments very good, but who that one epp?

Ethiopian Airlines, moderate. But on connected flights, they will abandon you at Addis Ababa even if waiting time is more than 24hrs. Idiots.

Egyptair, cheapest as far as I'm concerned. Moderate onboard services and refreshments. On connected flight, even if waiting time is less than 16 hrs in Cairo, they will take you to a 4-star hotel (better than naija 5-star hotels), Breakfast and lunch on their bills.

On the bases of the cost & services, I think egyptair is the best.

My opinion though, based on my limited experience of international flights.

Which routes were these flights (origin and destinations)

I doubt if there is a country where Emirates doesn't go, though I boarded the flight from Nigeria (origin) to Dubai (destination), that is the airlines' parent country.

I boarded Egyptair and Ethiopian Airlines to India. (On different occasions).

Egyptair has a stop over at Cairo, while Ethiopian Airlines stops over at Addis Ababa, both originating from Nigeria and final destinations being Mumbai.

I have also travelled from India to other countries but I doubt if you will understand those routes, somehow difficult to explain here.

I asked cos I heard that with some airlines, the quality of service depends on the route. I don't know how true this is though.

Well, based on my own experience, it depends on the airlines and the destination. (Hotel accommodation during waiting period).

The quality of the airplane and services onboard are highly influenced by the region. Anything originating from Africa is old and poorly maintained. Unless it's an African airline.

Before there was United to Houston (no more now though) and Delta to Atlanta, that both fly direct to US, we've had to fly through Europe to get to Lagos. I have flown BA, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, Iberia. On all of them, the flight between US and their respective Home Hub is super! The flight to Lagos is always a totally different story. From the Old aircraft they use, to the food, the service itself...pretty much everything. Period! Of course, the flight between US and their home country is usually at least 98% white, while the flight to Lagos is the exact opposite. Bottom line, they treat us differently. Each of them probably have their reasons for this, but that's just the way it is.

Seems there is no regulation guiding this. Quite a pity

So I will be breaking my experience into two categories;
1- International flight Experiences
2- Local Flight Experiences

For;
-1 International flight Experiences, my best by a long shot in terms of value for money is Turkish Airlines, the luggage weight allowance, economy comfort etc is very commendable. So as a classic plus card holder, I get to use the lounge if I have a layover at Istanbul.

However for Luxury, Etihad was on a league of its own... Just that Etihad flights are not as cheap as Turkish Airlines.

Now for

-2 Local Flight Experiences, Spirit Airlines in the United States is the worst airline I have ever patronized... like I can't even start explaining how Spirit Airlines sucks on various levels.
I flew from California to Texas on Spirit Airlines mhan! What a flight ... firstly the chairs were fixed, and they couldn’t recline, so I was literally sitting in an "L" form, when I asked the hostess, I was told to pay and upgrade, which didn't make any sense. Secondly the connecting flight at Phoenix-AZ was late, so they combined people who missed their flight to my flight, we were literally packed like Sardines in a tin, the plane was hot! It was in Spirit Airlines I knew people could fan themselves in an airplane. Thirdly because the flight was full, there was no space in the overhead for my carryon, I was also asked to pay extra ... na there I change am for that Cardi B hostess mtcheew... bottom line Spirit Airlines happens to be my worst airline experience, especially their rude customer service
