Emerging reports say that Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II has reportedly hired prominent lawyers to prevent his removal from his position as monarch.

According to the report, Sanusi has set up a legal team made up of at least three Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SANs) and other lawyers.

The lawyers are:

1. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN)

2. Kola‎ Awodein (SAN)

3. A.B Mahmoud (SAN) president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA)

Other top counsels who are yet to be named are also on the team.

The reports also claim that the legal team are already working on legal applications that are set to be filed in Kano High Court today, Wednesday, May 11.

Headlines across the nation had earlier reported that Kano State Assembly filed 8-count charges of corruption against Sanusi.

Alhaji Ibrahim Gama who is representing Nasarawa local government raised a motion of urgent public importance.

Ibrahim Gama expressed disappointment at statement credited to the emir that the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led administration wasted a month in China over the light rail project.

He also criticised the emir’s decision to send his daughter to represent him at the #BringBackOurGirls programme saying it had not happened in the tradition of the emirate before.

Well he doesn't speak the truth all the time.

All other things being equal, although I eagerly want a retake of nigeria from so called 'elites'.. i'd definitely vote a sanusi if he contested for the presidency in the near future

He might be seen to be telling the truth, however, he also has his own faults. If not, issues of mismanagement of funds wont't have trailed him from his time at CBN and now again in his emirate.

Maybe they want him to be a bit more discreet with his truths.

This is just plain stupidity from the governor. The governor knew that it was kwakwanso that installed Sanusi as Emir, so he wanted to get back at Kwakwanso and his people through Sanusi.....

The issue is not about financial impropriety, rather, it's a political war between Ganduje and Kwakwanso.....something akin to what's happening between Wike and Amaechi

Yes, I agree he might have numerous faults as well. But you see one thing I like about him is the fact that he's so blunt, he doesn't care whose ox is gored. He says it 'as e dey hot.'

Secondly, I'm privy of atleast 5, near-death issues that he has helped solve/intervene, and if I'm not mistaken, those issues would have cost him not less that 50 million naira. He's kinda philanthropic in nature. So, if our leaders can steal and atleast help the needy, we can still manage them small na, but note that this is a Nigerian factor o, 'cos on a good day, it's not supposed to be like that.

And.... Did he have "funds mismanagement" issues when he was the CBN governor? Sincerely, I'm not in the know then.

Inasmuch as I agree with sanusi on many issues, I think he should tone down a little by realizing he's on a traditional throne and not a political office. He should act like every other powerful kings in the world and stop "dabbing" into every issue and stop cheapening that throne.

He's not popular among Kano people right now because of his comments, some nothern governors are not happy with him and some cabal at the presidency are also against him because of certain comments he made against this administration. If you have this tri-headed enemies against you , then you're doomed.

The Kano state government won't hesitate to remove him because they know there won't be any resistance from the public against this move as it is obvious that he's not mostly loved by majority.


I heard somewhere that every position Sanusi held , he was removed before serving out his time and I'm not happy that same is about to happen again.

My brother, when you fight corruption, it fights back with vigour and tenacity. Sanusi is a very honest leader, the victims of his truth and bluntness are the ones trying hard to pin corruption allegations on him.

Sanusi's hypocrisy is his bane. This is a man condemning the mass poverty of his people, yet drives around in rolls Royce cars and displaying vile opulence.
