Lastly, who are we to judge another culture. Have you questioned the particular rite in question? From my vantage point, it seems that they are venerating women, in their own special way. At least that culture has the foresight to see some clear advantage women have over men: Empathy. Most cultures in the world are in general agreement that women possess a greater emotional IQ than men. And its also generally agreed that women are peacemakers and men are more predisposed to belligerence and violence. We shouldn't judge others, can you truly say your values are superior, just because they are the polar opposite of another person's? I'd say the greatest judgment of values is if they aren't anti human.

Hello poster I will like to mention that, Domestic violent is not a religion thing at all if beating of ones wife you are talking about relates to that.
Domestic violence is a communal problem that happens in Muslims home,Christian homes and other religions too, I must mention that Islam is often criticized because its always vocal about societal issues and tries to address all issues. No matter the amount of scolding you give to a husband that beliefs beating his wife is right he will always see light in his act. Instead of condemning, what Islam do is to understand the reason behind your actions and also help you to act right. I will like to mention that outside of wife beating Islam frowned at any form of dehumanizing activities, for instance Islam kicks against Tribal mark , kicks against hitting the human skull or all hitting to the head and all form of pain causing activities to the human body in general.
However even the constitution of the day do not have hard time sending anybody to prison irrespective of gender, hence husband that sees light in beating of his wife found justification saying if government can send once wife to prison like it will do to a man hence beating their wife is not bad.
To conclude I will like to say that Islam did not in anyway encourage Beating of wife but rather frowns at it by recommending a mild way of doing what is a community menace. Islam advice to treat your wife gently and I can recall my Dad will always say in Islam the only beating allowed is such that no form of pain will be suffered by the receiver of the beating. It is compelling to mention that the act is suppose to be a form of showing disapproval of the wrong act done by the receiver of the beating and in not to serve as punishment . So its

Ethiopia is diverse. Northern, southern, eastern and western Ethiopians are different. Even within those regions, there are so many diverse peoples.
