The Obatala towns of Southern Nigeria are towns found in Yoruba Land and Igbo Land that were founded fully or partially by descendants of the Obatalas of Ile Ife. They include Ugbo, Owu and Owu settlements all over Igbo Land and Yoruba Land, Ugbodu, Onicha Ugbo, Onitsha Ado, Ugbokko Araba (sounds like Idi Araba, right?), and many others.

The Obatalas were the rulers of Ile Ife before the arrival of Oduduwa The Great. They also had other titles like Oba Igbo and Osere Igbo.

Igbos and Yorubas should stop quarreling, as they have many deep linkages between them. They are twins bound togather forever, whether they like it or not. And they can do great things together.

We are currently looking into deeply of these, and would bring you more refreshing history soon.It will be well with the Igbos and Yorubas. Amen.

While it's true that Yoruba and Igbo share common origin, that history is not what you are posting here

Yoruba and Igbo connection goes way back, older than the events of the Obatala and oduduwa period.
Every town descendants of Obatala founded are on record, even more clarity exists in this case than that of towns founded by descendants of oduduwa

What will you say about the town of Oguta in Imo State that has an Owu Festival like other Owu towns in today's Yoruba Land, aongst other similar features like the Osere and Iyasare titles (Ugbo Ilaje people- who are also Obatala descendants- call their own Yasara). The Oguta even believe that they came from somewhere West ofthe Niger.

According to Yoruba history, Oduduwa reconciled with Obatala and to seal that reconciliation, he gave out his first daughter, Princess Okanbi Iyunade to Obatala, the Osere Igbo and Oba Igbo. Now the first Owu, Ajibosin was being carried as a kid by Obatala, when he reached out and started crying for his father's crown. The father made him a king right there (ask and it shall be given unto you).

All Owu settlements celebrate this annual Owu Festival include many in Igbo Land. And all these Owu towns are, whether we like it or not, Obatala towns. If not, why would they be celebrating Owu Festival?

Ugbo are not Obatala descendants but supporters led by his brother Obamakin, I've never come across any information associating any of Obatala's children to Ugbo(who settled at modern Mokuro), his children in Ife have always been in Iranje, others who left went to found other towns like Ifon and Ipetumodu

Yes Ajibosin was a son of Obatala and Iyunade but his claim to a crown was not through Obatala..he got his crown while crying on oduduwa's lap not Obatala
He was considered of the line of oduduwa

Even in the Obatala cult, Ajibosin is not recorded as a true son. He is counted as a member of oduduwa's household all over yorubaland

Have you forgotten that sometimes when reference is made to the children of the founder/legendary leader of a people, it is not just the biological descendants that are referred to but also his close relations, his servants and their descendants? For instance, when reference is made to the children of Abraham, the descendants of his whole household are included, not just his biological descendants.

Or take for example the Yoruba. They are often generally known as the children of Oduduwa, despite the fact that you have aborigines who were there when he came. So, even from the Obamakin perspective, the Ugbo are still Obatala's children. The strongman in ancient communities molds the people to become one family under him and over time that sought of crystallizes.

But on the issue of Ugbo not being biologically descended from Obatala, let's see if research will be published disproving that.

Yes. That happens with royalty all over the world. For instance, Prince Charles's claim to the English crown is not through his Greek father Prince Phillip, but through his English mother Queen Elizabeth. Even the present Ooni of Ife, from what I hear claims the crown from his maternal side, not his paternal side.

But biologically, Ajibosin was also descended from Obatala. That is why in Igbodefender posts we go through great pains to state that Oduduwa's Order is the reigning order in Yoruba Land. Historical facts aside, everyone recognizes the cultural foundation of Yoruba Land and its people as being connected principally to Oduduwa's intervention in Ife, not Obatala's prior rule of Ile Ife. But Obatala was also great, for Oduduwa to reconcile with him, give him his first child as wife and ask him to assist in ruling Ife.

With my last post I already trashed the things you hang on to as points to buttress your claim
1. Ugbo are children of Obamakin not Obatala, in whatever way you choose to understand the word or position of "children"
2. Owu as a town is more connected oduduwa. Ajibosin is considered a member of oduduwa's household

So leave these two issues already, bring something else if you have

Ajibosin may have become a ruler via Oduduwa, but he is also a grandson of Obatala. That makes Owu an Obatala town/kingdom in Yoruba Land.

are you now Olowu? Or is your lineage from Owu?

Owu is known as an oduduwa's child's(grandson) town

The biological paternity is irrelevant in the tradition at Ife and all Owu communities,

@ macof,
Please, why do you keep starting Oduduwa's name in small caps? Maybe you are doing it unknowingly, so I had to call your attention to it. Please capitalize His Name in all your posts in this thread. Thanks.

Lol. Sorry, you are really something else with this interest in Yoruba history

The small caps are saved in my keypad autocorrect so I don't have to type all letters of the name
