Don't know when was the last time you visited Nigeria (Lagos to be specific)
There are obviously a few shops built to UK standards.
What you can do is buy shop fittings and ship them to Nigeria (via door to door) companies.
Or just ask these shop owners who designed / and built their shops.
If you visit a place like The Palms, you'll find shops similar to what you want to achieve.

Like i said you might have to import the materials but you will find local guys to help you put them together.

Door to door shipping shouldn't.
Will make enquiries on your behalf. There just might be somewhere in Nigeria to get those things.
I have a friend who has a shoe shop in Lagos. Will find out where they got their shop fittings.

It depends.
Wish I could upload a few pictures of my friend's shop.
But unfortunately I haven't got the pictures.
Whereabouts in London are you?
You can get door to door quotes for as little as £3.00 per kilo. At least up to Lagos.
You would only need the frames. The shelves you can always organise locally ( if you are a good artist or can take pictures).
There's a magazine called Retail Weekly. Usually has details of people selling off shop fittings etc cos the shops are closing down.
Get a design of the display window. And get that made for you in Nigeria.
You can look at shops at the Tinapa Resort. a lot of the displays were made locally.

Wonderful.

Photos of your dream shops would be great, take close-ups of the fittings not just the look, helps the shop fitter work out how best to make them

Darling I thought you would go the more arty/gallery or even the ultra-chic boutique hotel look  undecided I love shops like that, they can be a bit intimidating some times, all that, "can I  get you a glass of champagne undecided undecided undecided

Re: *URGENT URGENT* fashion retail merchandising FOR NEW STORES ACCROSS NIGERIA by madlady(f): 10:26pm On Feb 28, 2010
^ Ok, look the 2nd that's the only one that could give you problems, all the rest, DEAD SIMPLE!!!!!

The arty look, local artists show the BEST of their works on your wall, not too much, you need the space for your bags and shoes.
3 beautiful sofas (no chairs) a few stools you need fab dummies  and a few rails. BE WARNED  this look may be too old or  undecided undecided
I love it for the individual appearance but lots hate it undecided undecided

The clean look is very easy and can be cheap, best rails you can get, well painted walls , lovely glass boxes, leather white puffs or sofas,
keep everything monochrome, the items you are selling should then pop. HUGE PLANTS, I, 3, OR 5. keep everything in that style.

Go to SELFRIDGES, check out the different design houses, see the look you like, maybe HARRODS might be better. kiss kiss

The table comes with a second shelf almost floor level, that's very common in that style of table.
Just checked the table again it's a trestle leg, like a long post, get the one with extra shelf if you go for that kind of look, holds more.
Re: *URGENT URGENT* fashion retail merchandising FOR NEW STORES ACCROSS NIGERIA by ayettymama(f): 10:51pm On Feb 28, 2010
bbz do unno how i can do rails

that will last

theres a particular way they design thier rails

unno so the donbt take the plaster off the walls and fall!!

do unno how they do it

ive got a few catalogues for shop fitting

ive seen the brackets- but i want to be able to explain to the local welders and goldsmiths

i have to customize everything inc the rails

wat do u think of those african wood works as mannequins

i think it would be kool!!!
Re: *URGENT URGENT* fashion retail merchandising FOR NEW STORES ACCROSS NIGERIA by madlady(f): 11:05pm On Feb 28, 2010
AFRICAN CRAFT WORK KOOL KOOL , but us blk ppls can turn our noses up at it, whites love handcrafted goods, I love them.
My young brother (26) hates anything like that, he  likes ultra up to the second things.
The market your aiming for will govern the look you go for.

Rail fittings I know nothing about, only dealt with the look, you know they use to have books (look books) that we were told to follow, I always ignored them tongue.

You must be careful, the look now it's so celebrity focused, you really have to follow whats in for young people like yourself, that's why I would find it hard to get back into the industry .

Honey do not let the cost govern your choice, not many are into the arty look!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: *URGENT URGENT* fashion retail merchandising FOR NEW STORES ACCROSS NIGERIA by ayettymama(f): 12:48am On Mar 01, 2010

unno the top stores spemnd more on the art design and fashion shows more than the clothes!

im gonna try and give it a contemporary/africanised modern look!

im still lookin for space sha
Re: *URGENT URGENT* fashion retail merchandising FOR NEW STORES ACCROSS NIGERIA by madlady(f): 6:26am On Mar 01, 2010
^Honey I am sorry I left without telling you embarassed embarassed, I am not feeling well, my shunt needs replacing, feeling a bit weak cry.
My Cousin and I have spent the Morning laughing fit to drop at what @ifedy been saying down on the culture section, it's made my chest hurt  even more sad.

You said the MAGIC WORDS, CONTEMPORARY/AFRICAN, if you did that in the UK you would be laughing all the way to the bank, but it would cost you a bomb, the designer may stiff you and it's such a HOT idea all your props would have to be made by hand, that kind of workforce can charge what they like.

If you are sure that the NIGERIAN market would like that then you've got it made, I think your fitters,craft- people would be way less expensive.
Check that your market is ready for that!!

Take photos of the things you like, then style your shop to fit them.

If this is the look you are going for then your RAILS  come last, you would design your rails to fit the shop, not even sure you should use metal  rails for such a look.  I would go with bamboo poles smiley

ps I have a very cool contemp shop fit you can see, I will post if you wish. kiss

By the way I never got to see you in that dress that you were gonna get.

Re: *URGENT URGENT* fashion retail merchandising FOR NEW STORES ACCROSS NIGERIA by ayettymama(f): 1:00pm On Mar 01, 2010
The hanging rails are popular at the 'high end high street' stores

like united colors and karen millen (i will kill for a job with them!)
very nice

but they arent very economical are they?? such a waste of space

they could still put alot of clothes up!!
Re: *URGENT URGENT* fashion retail merchandising FOR NEW STORES ACCROSS NIGERIA by ayettymama(f): 1:02pm On Mar 01, 2010

if i can get really big space i must do that!!

the plastic mannequins are relatively cheap- ill double them to have the full body eefect!

Re: *URGENT URGENT* fashion retail merchandising FOR NEW STORES ACCROSS NIGERIA by madlady(f): 1:49pm On Mar 01, 2010
^I paint.

That's not what you really want, you need to take pics of the kind of items you want  in your shop, then before  you go down that line check if it will work.
I have a gut instinct that kind of arty shop would work in the UK, US, those types of places, would do very well in tourist areas of black countries, but alot of young blacks are into ultra modern.

Ultra modern may be the way to go for you, your goods will be bang on trend so you may have to have a shopfit to reflect your stock and clientele.

An aluminium shop in Naija can design ur hanging poles.

Its all about giving them the measurements.

The only thing is you will have to police every hanging pole made.

Don't waste too much money for now on over presentation; start and grow it.

On less your opening it in a massive 500million naira building; hence the need for all that.

If its a shop or two shops, the idea you have is more than enough to make it the best clothing shop in the area.

Go girl; you can do it. Enjoy every bit!
