Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and PDP Governorship Aspirant in Imo State in the 2015 election, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, has commended Mbaise sons and daughters in the United States of America for their commitment to the health and welfare of their people back home.

Chief Ihedioha, who was addressing members of Mbaise USA, currently in the Country on their annual Medical Mission, praised the members of the organization for the sacrifices they made in time and material resources all in a bid to alleviate the challenges being faced by their folks at home. He described their services as great alternatives to the poor heathcare system prevalent in the country adding that many who would have died or suffered various disabilities due to the non-availability of adequate healthcare have been saved by the intervention of their brothers and sisters in the UNited States. According to him, the Mbaise USA has shown that the development of our place is paramount in their agenda, which they have demonstrated by ensuring that our people have access to quality healtcare services.

Said he: “I learnt you have conducted different kind of surgeries and given out quality medications to our people. These they would have ordinarily paid for or in most cases died due to lack of finances. Your resolve to take off these burdens from our people had placed the Mbaise USA in the life-time history book of the Mbaise nation.” The Medical Mission is an annual programme of Mbaise USA Incoporated, the umbrella organization of Mbaise indigenes in the United States, which seek to pool human and financial resources from sons and daughters of Mbaise to intervene in the healthcare of their people back home.

This year’s Mission covered was expanded to six locations across the three Local Government Areas namely Aboh Mbaise, Ezinihitte Mbaise and Ahiazu Mbaise (up from 3 in the previous year) and was boosted with a purpose-built mobile theatre for for conducting minor surgeries on deserving patients.

During the mission Medical practitioners, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists of Mbaise extraction practicing in the USA, conduct routine consultations on people especially women and the aged administer basic drugs while critical cases are referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri, the Imo State, capital.

According to the President of Mbaise USA, Chief Law Osondu, this year’s Medical Mission got an added boost with the involvement of Mbaise sons and daughters in Europe and other parts of the world as well as some who practice in Nigeria.

At the end of the day, he stated, our key objective is to provide the much needed supposition and aistance to our people back home considering the poor state of the healthcare system. We consider ourselves privileged to live in a country where healthcare is taken very seriously and so we feel obliged to do what we can to help our folks back home, even as we call on government to invest in the development of the healthcare sector because health i indeed wealth.

The week-long mission, which started on Monday, May 22nd, ended on Saturday, May 27th and catered for well over 15,000 people an increase of over 40% of people reached by the mission in 2016.

The Mbaise USA Medical Mission is led by the Vice President of the organization, Mr. SOS Echendu, as well as the Chairman of the Board of Delegates, Sir Odogwu Wilson Iwu, Adanze Aguwa and the Deputy Chairman, Ezeji Alozie Aguwa.
