One of my favourite Christian books "The last Christian on Earth' mentioned in its pages that if Christ is not Lord of all your life, then you really aren't a true Christian.

Yesterday, I posted a reply to a thread by a certain believer about how he was asked by his pastor to tuck in his shirt, and how he considered such an order to be a proud and haughty assault by the pastor. Here is the thread and here is my reply as follows....

Sorry, but you actually have a problem...and that is pride.
Remember, the pastor asked you to tuck in your shirt. He did not ask you to go and steal, cheat, lie,or do something that is dishonorable to God.
Thing about being a Chirsitan is that we have to humble ourselves, and follow what our Elder in Christ has to say sometimes.

I got a lot of responses. Some of those responses are the reason why I am making this post today(apart frommy usual topics in the anime sector).

My second favourite....especially as the guy does not know that 1) I am a medic 2) I treat drug abusers as part of my job. 3) I lost someone close to me....someone I looked up to back in the day....to drug abuse...so I am not too pro-drugs at all.4) I enjoy reggae music, occasionally listen to Fela (fave Fela song...VIP,follwed by Zombie).does not mean I smoke hemp!

OK....on a serious note,points to ponder

1. All the above posts were made by Chirstians. Note....CHRISTIANS.Not unbeleivers, not atheists (I was quoted by one in the thread, and we went on to have a fine discussion,by the way).

2.If Christians could make such comments, filled with sometimes vile abuse...what does this say about the state of their Chirstian life? Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
(My,we have some dark hearts here....heheheh.The Adversary would like this).

3.If Jesus is supposed to be Lord of our lives, why isn't he Lord of our postings online too?Or is it because we think that God does not see what we do online because we post under imaginary names.

4.) We have a problem.

And it is a serious one.

In Nigeria today, the church is thriving.I have spent some time in Europe, and beleive you me,I have seen empty churches, boarded up churches, churches being used for other purposes. In Nigeria, the church is thriving. There are churches everywhere...even in the Far North, and most Nigerians,if asked ,would say that they believe in God.

Yet,it seems to me....that our belief in God is not total and encompassing of our lives as Christians. There are Nairalanders who call themselves Christians....yet post bigoted tribalistic trash on this site. There are Nairalanders who call themselves Christians, yet post insults that they won't use on their bosses online. There are Nairalanders who go to church several times a week....yet respond to posts with abuse and insults...instead of follwing Paul'sadvice to be 'ready to give an answer'.

If as Christian Nairalanders we cannot be civil to one another....remember that Jesus,in his prayer in John 17said 'Father let them be one'....if we cannot show love to the people we disagree with...then can we call ourselves Chrisitians?

What would someone considering turning to Jesus make of the above posts I have quoted.? Obviously this Chirstianity thing does not work! Christians are just like other unbelievers. too!

It is high time, my fellow Christian Nairalanders....to make Christ the Lord of everything we do ,including our posting.

Let this be our motto...Colossians 4 verse 6...as we post here on Nairaland.

Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

It's a very simple issue tell Seun to add the disclaimer they have on the Islamic threads to the Christian ones and see some of these display of childish truancy reduce.

You cannot generalise.

Dear 9jahokai,

Your comment was insensitive and annoying. Remove the log of wood in your eyes before the grain of salt in another's.

How can you support a pastor telling a grown man how to dress in the midst of other church members? Why should the guy tuck-in on sandals?

For someone so educated, you reason like an illiterate.

You are right about one thing- christianity and religion in Nigeria are useless

Well, the point of my post was not about whether my comment was right PR wrong , but whether Christians in responding to comments use far too Mich bad language.

Which I have noticed, by the way on other threads too.

As for tucking in shirts, I was once asked to tuck in my shirt when I was a student by a very senior consultant, in public I must add. I swallowed my pride and tucked in.

After all, if he was going for a job interview, his shirt would be tucked in ( unless the job requirement states otherwise)

But that is beside the point...which is we must be a lot more gracious to each other....which by the way you did not show by calling me an illiterate.

Anyways, being gracious doesn't cost much.

God bless

Judas betrayed Jesus with a gentle kiss.

A bad action whether done graciously or ruthlessly is still a bad action.

Your gracious politeness counts for nothing if you are supporting a wicked pastor.

Good day.

Get the picture bro! Trolls will come to derail this thread. Don't attend to questions concerning the tucking of shirt on this thread. The thread is about NL Christian and how their posts/comments here do not show them to be meek as their Christ in any way. It's a good thing some of you are starting to realize this.

9jakohai, you're right on point.
Colossians 4:6 has been what's been guiding me and I use it to defend myself when fellow Christians feel I'm on the wrong track.

I don't understand why we should insult to defend something as Christians. God is wise enough and He alone knows the reason why he commanded us to love. the Bible also tell us to live at peace with all men. Many of us don't understand this simple principles of courtesy in the Bible.

We should reflect God, reflect Christ wherever we find ourselves, Be it offline and online... This reminds me of a book titled 'who we are when no one's looking'

Words are very powerful Christians and they can mar us or make us. So please let's be very careful in carrying out God's Commandments in every aspect of our lives.

Most times I come here, I see no difference between we the Christians and the atheists and its really heartbreaking. If you cannot represent Jesus the way He commanded then please stop standing for Him. Stand for yourself in such a way when you speak, people will see you're speaking for yourself and not representing God at that moment.

It's a very big shame when people insult or mock God because of your speech. There's a difference between people just mocking God and them mocking God because you gave them a reason to, because you gave them the strength to. I wonder if your conscience pricks you when you do that....

If you reflect nothing that brings honour to God here, then please, it's better you stay mute. angry

Thank you OP.

Op is on point.

When you read front page topics, believe me, most of the uncivil comments are always from religious peeps.

They're usually the ones in support of tribalism, jungle justice, and quick to insult or even curse other people.

Religion is a big ball of hypocrisy.
Re: Nairaland Christians,we Get Problem by OtemAtum: 2:06pm On May 29, 2017
Christians are the fastest to refer to others as f*ols, stewpid, etc. I don't blame them, since their Christ also dedicated a whole chapter of the evil book bible to curse the scribes and Pharisees.

Interesting OP.

I have 2 things to say.

The First is off topic as this isn't the subject of the thread but you mention it and I want to respond.

1) You support pastor tell a church member to tuck in his shirt. Please where does this obedience to the pastor end? Is it before or after he tells you to start eating grass? Or to roll on the floor like a worm?
What edifying reason did the pastor have for telling the man to tuck in his shirt? You didn't mention any in your story.

2) Yes, Christians are the most foul mouthed people you'll find on Nairaland but it doesn't stop there. In my experience they don't stop where the mouth has limits, but their Deeds and thoughts and full of evil wickedness too. A lot of the stealing that is don't in nigeria is done by Christians along with muslim cohorts. A lot of the oppression of each other in Nigeria is done by these religious folks.

Why? Because of Irreligion. Christianity (and maybe Islam, but it is christianity I know so I'll stick with that) is NOT a religion. In fact it's effects are quite the opposite of religion. Religion should reconcile you to God and have the effect of giving your peace. But look around. Do you see any peaceful christians? Where did all this angst and aggression come from? What spirit is this that my people have collected unto their heads?
They say a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. Those of you that feel you can continue to fellowship with evil people and remain unscathed, good luck to you. But me, when I see wicked people gather I will run, and don't pull any scripture of 'do not forsake the gathering of the brethren', me I know my brethren separate from a brood of vipers. I nor dey follow anybody do christianity again unless I know you personally. I don't think that church gathering should be more than 30 people.
