If you want to gain respect outside, not inside the bank ooo.

Don't resign until you get your appointment letter. I repeat don't resign.

Fellow NLers please I need your take on this. I currently have a full time job - a career building kinda job. However, after a CBT TEST with Zenith Bank for job offer which I only learnt on the CBT Test day that it's a contract job, I was called for an interview but I rescheduled the interview due to pressing tasks at my current workplace.

Meanwhile, as I wait for the call back, I want to know the pros and cons of this. Should I leave my present job for it?

Guy don't ask for advice because of the following reasons
Because people that want to advice you are not close to your present job
They dont have knowledge about the kind of job both entails
The don't know you hobby what you like most doing
They don't know your vision
They dont know the stage stage you're presently on your mission in order for you to aarcheive your mission
They dont know what the pay is like I mean both job
They know if you're the type that likes working 24/7 even forget to eat.
They dont know if you have passion for banking job or not
They dont know if you're the type that really wantbto work and little and set up your own firm if you're banking is your best
Job to train yourself.
Etc.
What you should be asking for is you need people to analys the diff between full time job and contract job then you will then decide because you're the only one who is close to the ttwo jobs and you will take responsibilities for youdecision if you fail or not guy because in nigeria of ours today some contract jobs are wy betterof full time job..

In mobile chevron shell and many other multinationals companies most of of theeir staffs are on contract..

I drop my pen.. we won't know tge value of a thing until we missed the use of it...

It should depend on your personality and future career goal. If you for example want to be a consultant, it may be good for you to say you've had experience here, there and that other place and you've done many things.

I've met people who are continuously working from one contract to the next. And they seem content. The job search just never stops. And they always have options.

Thanks to all that has contributed so far. I really appreciate your responses.

I know for some, it should be an easy decision. But with what has happened back home it's not easy. The pay, the immediate settlement and stability I need right now is in that job, my family back home needs me too. But it's just for 2years...

Meanwhile in this one I'm growing in it, it's secured, and with better prospects and I love the place. But I'm away from my family. The only child of my parents, my Dad just passed away last month and my attention is needed back home.

I have the option of being posted back home but it's just for 2years...

My head is grinding o...

From 2004 to 2006, I was in Zenith Bank as a contract staff with my HND. I met some older guys that have been contract staff for about 5 years before i joined. The contract guys were never promoted nor demoted, they train fresh graduates who were then promoted and made superiors to the contract guys. I left Zenith Bank contract job for a permanent full employment in another bank in 2006. However, few year after I left, Zenith Bank management upgraded contract guys who have spent 5 years above to the first level of the full staff cadre and they have remained on that level since then, no moving forward to level two (as at the last time I asked my guys). I have no advice for you because my advice didn't work for me if not I won't be here doing e-warrior and political e-tout with secondary school students on Nairaland. My brother, advice yourself.

That robbery occurred in February. And the culprits have since been arrested.

However, it's not a wise decision to take the contract job. The plethora of advice above is more than sufficient.

How much do you earn at your current place of work? In case you don't know, the entry level in zenith bank now is the so called contract position which they have renamed graduate assistant (GA). Nobody escapes it unless you already have your ICAN or coming in with work experience. You will be promoted/converted to permanent staff after you have fully paid your dues in that position cool The first set of people that joined in that cadre have all been converted

You have some points though, But i need to make you understand that being a full staff in a company you earn 150k is better than being a contract staff in another company and earn 350k...I know cos i am a contract staff in a Multinational Oil and Gas firm. The only thing you get mostly is your salary and nothing else. I go to swamp locations for weeks and don't get paid a dime..only a tap on my back. The main staff collect heavy allowances for shorter time spent. I never had a HMO for years, rather i use my Wife's HMO, her salary is not up to 90k, but her HMO covers my family because she is a full staff in a logistics company. I don't have housing allowance, my wife does. My wife has a vacation plan, i don't...for me to go on leave i'll have to justify it..while the staff just fill leave plan and go.... My salary for 4 years has never been reviewed. The full staff talk to you without respect like you all do not have the same University degree, only some departments that have White men as Bosses are a little better. This is a multinational Oil company, so you can imagine being a contract staff in an indigenous firm. Its not something to look forward to

Well take the name "contract" away from it and work there if you desire a banking career but the following questions must be answered
i. which are they offering? is it related to the last place you worked?
ii. Are you happy at your last place of work?

Your career can do with a bigger name it doesn't matter if the nature of the employment. It would interest you that most chevron , oracle etc staff are on contract(well the pay is juicy) but they press on for a while and hit the big players after while.

Go to where you can/will improve your networking
