No, Australia used to be a prison post where the British sent the worst prisoners. It later became a proper settlement like Canada and USA.

Onila, why don't you read a history book on the subject?

Most Australians were British and IRISH convicts, who were deported from the UK for everything from murder to the ridiculous crime of stealing a piece of bread. Many Irish people were deported for the 'crime' of opposing British control over Ireland and being involved in political groups supporting Irish Independence. South Australia is the only state in Australia which was not a convict State, founded by many British and German settlers.

From the get-go, Australian colonists were from a mix of backgrounds, English Scots Welsh and Irish being the primaries. These are already completely different cultures to one another. Keep in mind that the 'culture' of the working-class Brits was completely different to the 'culture' of the middle-Class or ruling class, and from one another. E.g. Cornwall, Leeds, Scotland, Cumbria, Wales, London, Manchester all had heavy differences in culture and lifestyle. After being forced to work in horrible and slavelike conditions in Australia, and coming into contact with aboriginal Australians (who subsequently suffered a lot from the colonists and government), new cultures arose from Irish and English roots and formed the cultures that dot Australia today.

Then on, post-world war 2 many people from Europe migrated to Australia seeking asylum from the tension between the Soviet Union and the Western Bloc. A huge amount of Greek migrants came during the civil unrest in Greece and many Vietnamese people came during the Vietnam war. Afghan traders have also been active in Australia since it's beginnings as a British Outreach. Nowadays Australia, particularly in the South and Southeast, is a modern multicultural society with people with ancestors from all over the world. It's a pretty good place, no tribalist garbage like in Africa, no major terror attacks like in Europe, arguably the safest country on earth, etc.

this why nairaland is here for people to have straight forward answers, instead of text books with big english,
i will always do my research later

i read some australian history on wikipedia, i wasn't able to get a straight forward info like you did it

i was asking because in a major british website, there was a part dedicated to australian news
so i was wondering if Australia maintained their british tradition(being former british prisoners)

for britain to still maintain ties with them
