Itak Ikot Udo Okop is located in southern part of urban ward 3 in Ikot Ekpene (AKWA IBOM STATE), Belonging to Urban Clan. Itak is among the 47 villages in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Itak is bounded by Ekpene Inuen (Ikono Local Government Area) in the south, north by Abiakpo (Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area), In the east by Ndiya in Ikono Local Government Area and in the west by Ikot Otu in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. Itak Ikot Udo Okop has an approximately Two Thousand ( 2,000) peoples with diverse dialect mixed with Annang, Ibibio but Annang is their major ethnic group. The village is known for their major farming product such as Afang , Palm Oil, Palm Wine, Garri and Raffia.
ORIGIN OF ITAK IKOT UDO
The main root of Itak Ikot Udo Okop is in Obot Akara Local Government Area, Udo Okop and his elder brother Andi Okop migrated from Itak Edem Esa in Obot Akara As a result of communal War. His elder brother Andi Okop ran to another place now called Nung Udoe Itak .As a result of Communal war Itak Edem Esa had with another village. he(UDO OKOP) The founder of the village(ITAK IKOT UDO OKOP)ran with his children’s and many died on their way and he get safe with his two (2)sons AKPAN ESSIEN AND APEYONG UDO OKOP they settle in a thick forest now called Itak Ikot Udo. But later on his brothers split to different environment but he later return to keep the peace with his brother and loves ones, They have the simple understanding not to lose the name ITAK that was what makes them known up till today.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL BACKGROUND OF ITAK IKOT UDO
Itak is blessed with diverse Culture such as EKPO,NABOU,IKEM,EKONG and ABON. The most unique among the cultures is (ABON).Abon makes the village to be notable across Ikot Ekpene and Akwa Ibom state, The culture ABON strengthen the peace co¬-existence between the sections that make up the village, Its also serve as instrument that help to maintain the laws and orders in the village , The ABON culture is usually played in the market days like ABO. In Abo market days no body is allowed to go to the farm and if by voiding the law, they is consequences for that. The Abon is equip with many songs and lyrics. The Abon culture is generally played in every 1st of January to give gratitude to God that gave the villagers good health, prosperity. In 1st January its bring people from diverse villages to have a view and enjoyment which makes the village to be eminent. . Moreover it is played as source of entertainment and for inspirations for the villagers. Their drums is unique. Its also serve as means of communication by beating the drum for announcement. The Abon is used as security(UFOK USUNG) and to strive out thieves in the village even in the middle of the night.
Itak ikot udo had a war with four villages at the same time to chase the village from the position but Itak fought the war successfully and maintain in their spot, After winning the war they build a house(AFA) for the remembrance of the war they fought. The FOURTY-EIGHT (48) villages names after ITAK in Akwa ibom state have differently, a reserve forest called ABAM to symbolize the village ITAK. , He UDO OKOP first settle in the forest and after some years later he was lay to rest in the forest (ABAM). Since the settlement of Itak Ikot Udo Okop,ONE THOUSAND YEARS (1000) A GO, they have about ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY (120)crown village head including Him UDO OKOP and the present village head.
FAMILY SETTING OF ITAK IKOT UDO
ITAK IKOT UDO have fourteen (14) families which made the four (4) section of the village, namely, Ibok, Afaha Enwang ,Afaha Itak and Ukpap respectively, The section called Ibok have five (5) families namely Nto Essien Udo,Ikot Ndon,Nung Imuk,Nung Akpa Esiere and Nung Udo Akpan Uton. Afaha Enwang section have four (4)families which is Nung Udoe,Ikot Ofon,Nung Anung,Nung Atai. Ukpap section has two (3) families namely Nung Akpan ,Nung Uton, Nto Akpan Essien. The section called Afaha Enwang has two (2) families namely Ikot Abai and Nung Inyang. In this fourteen (14) families that made of Itak only two (2) families out of Ibok section have right to the thorn of the village namely Nung imuk and ikot ndon, The cause is that he (UDO OKOP)being the founder of ITAK share the administrative works to his in-law (IKOT NDON) And UDO OKOP continue with main ruling, after many year He UDO OKOP gave the ruling power to his in-law IKOT NDON which stand till now (2017).
