The tone of that question was insulting and disrespectful, i am only seeing a journalist putting emotion before civility.

Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by CyberG: 2:48pm On Jan 23, 2010
This is the kind of questioning that leaders get in the developed world. . .and I don't see anything "insulting" in how this question was asked. To start with, stupid Maduekwe and Nigerian leaders have gone beyond insulting and abusing Nigerians that they can never make a claim to not getting a taste of their own medicine!

The SR reporter was obviously fiesty and zealous so asking tough questions of this minister in the way they understand it is very well in order! In the west and developed places, the leaders respect their citizens, regardless of age or position and would expect to be questioned accordingly. The reverse is the case in Nigeria. In fact, how often are government officials heckled and booed while making a speech or appearing at an event in the West? Here, after doing your "best", you must still be ready for the really hard questions!

The useless minister asking for security to deal with the questioner in the view of the whole world completely tells how Nigerian leaders think and abuse power! The power this fool purports to exercise derives ultimately from the electorate (people) but when the super-useless UMYA stole himself to power, what can you expect of his ministers?

BlackRevo. Are you kidding me Please explain what is insulting to me.

I did not say the question was an insult but the tone and arrogance the journalist went about it is what i am trying to highlight. The question was very necessary and you should have observed that it was the same question that was repeated by the foreign journalist which he eventually answered.
Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by monkeyleg: 3:39pm On Jan 23, 2010
@Black_revo,

the questioning might have been agressive, but what do you expect. Nigerians have had enough, and it is time those in power start facing hash challenges and firey questioning from our people. Nigerians have given them an easy fucking ride for such a long time.

In my opinion the questioning should have been a lot more agressive, let the idiot know that it is not going to be business as usual especially when he travels abroad. No more safe haven for corrupt leaders.

Does he think Nigerians should remain scared of him because he is a minister, a failing minister that is not up to the job, how can he threaten people on air. The guy is just unbelieveable. My brothers the only way we can change things is to challenge the people that lead us especially when the do or say nonsense

Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by Tsiya(m): 4:10pm On Jan 23, 2010
It seems this guy do not have international experience or perharps whenever he watches television of interview of world leaders, he just watches the act not registering in his mind what is going.

This is in fact not even a confrontational question. Prime Ministers and President of the world are heckled and asked more damming question than this and still they do not threaten somebody. This guy brought his area boy mentality to the UN.

What do anyone expect from these men and women in Abuja? They have a near dead man as president.

I agree that the question was necessary, but it was poorly structured, aggressive and unprofessional.

But maybe the minister had it coming.
Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by monkeyleg: 4:39pm On Jan 23, 2010
The minister had it coming. He had a poor showing on bbc hardtalk and even worse on the UN press conference. Thank God for the internet, his reaction would have been covered up in Nigeria and he would have gotten away with murder, now he has been exposed for the crap which he is. Let him step down, he is not fit for that office.

It the same cowardly professionalism that has kept Nigeria the  way it is today-no president for 60 days and we are still being professional.Ojo is lucky that he is not an American. They would have produced Nigerian's Fahrenheit 9/11 and have journalist insult him on FOX-the main opposition media to Obama. This bunch of idio~tic men in Abuja do not deserve civility in any form.Is it bad to remind the anu ofia' Ojo that he supported Abacha and that he admitted that he has not heard from Yar'Adua since the last 60 days? Anyone who says that that question was an insult and emotional is a coward.

The emotional state of mind is nothing but trouble.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to defend Mr. Minister, but if we keep allowing our emotions to rule us in Naija, we will always be tribalistic and we will only get things like the jos crisis.
Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by monkeyleg: 4:52pm On Jan 23, 2010
Naija Swag, I am with you. The idiot had it easy. Was it not the Prime minister of Italy that got it on his face for alleged sexual misconduct.

Ojo is lucky that is was a few mildly hash was, he was lucky that rotten tomato no follow. They have been abusing us for far too long.
Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by Tsiya(m): 4:57pm On Jan 23, 2010
There is nothing tribalistic here it is just the fact that it has become our culture not to question the morality behind every act of our elders. They believe in that they are infalliable. To be honest, Ojo Madueke have no moral authority to serve under any civilian/democratic government in Nigeria after serving under Abacha, whom all Nigerians irrespective of region will rightly agree that was not a just a good head of state.

Mr Ojo have shown to the whole world what a clown he is, and what clowns and brutal dictators we have as our democratic leaders. Imagine a Minister exchanging verbal insults with a Journalist in a foreign country.

I am struggling to understand how one's tone can automatically translate as insult. Perhaps those who know better than me can explain. Again, there is nothing arrogant about his way. He is passionate and he put that in his questions. Sorry, but what is wrong with that?

If more journalist have the same approach as this guy, we will have a better media over all.

I think it boils down to the fact that our leaders consider any serious question like this one, from a Nigerian as insult. They prefer journalist that will ask them question like the PointBlank on NTA where they will be asking them how many degrees they have and how many position they hold before this one. If that same question was asked by a foreigner not a Nigerian, Mr Ojo will not blab his mouth in that manner. It is so embarassing the guy is looking for MOPOL to drag the journalist out of the press conference
Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by naijaswag1: 5:05pm On Jan 23, 2010
@ziga

If we are not emotional about this country it will not work.Have you ever listened to interviews from the leaders of the G20 say Obama,Gordon Brown, and even the despotic ones like Chevaz and Ahmajined, this people talk with emotions and love for their country. That question was raised because "near anarchy has been let loose among the government of Nigeria".Since you were born, how many sane countries have been 'leaderless' for 60 days and nothing is being done other than the ministers going around defending that same government?

Tell me what you mean by being emotional, instead of answering a question,Ojo started by saying that the question is an insult.Did he not support Abacha? In the UK,an inquiry is going on about why Blair went to Iraq and you need to hear the kind of questions that are asked.Watch CNN and Aljazeera and you will see one clip where a journalist ask Gadhafi if he is not tired after 40years in power? Is that not an insult too?

On a more serious Note:
I think that Minister Ojo Madukwe is just as good as useless,  simple question he couldn't answer ,   know mater how as question is been requested ,  as a minister who u claimed that hav gotten vast experiences u should be able to answer it too in a more dice way that everybody will just buy to it even if that was not the correct answer, i think he needs a tongue and ear drum transplanting just as our president is  getting a life transplant, (lol) shocked shocked,

well when he said he has been in the Foreign minister position for 3 occasion i was shocked then i decided to check on the past administration who was the Foreign minister then and i was surprise that Though BABA has always been accused but  he is always smart enough to appoint the right people for crucial places

List fo Obasanjo foreign Ministers during his tenure
# Sule Lamido (1999-2003)
# Oluyemi Adeniji (2003-2006)
# Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (2006-2006)

Thinking about it, that part made me laff, who is in-charge of this place, police come and take him out. Ojo is a bloody fool, and I think more reporters should be even more agressive to him.
Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by Nobody: 5:56pm On Jan 23, 2010
Chineke m eeeeeee!

I don die for lafta: I don laf for Oyinbo language, com laf for brokenn, now i dey laf for Igbo.

I wan ask the minister my own question:

"Minister, since you have performed woefully and it is now obvious to all that you not qualified to be a minister, let alone that of foreign, why haven't you got the courage to resign (and stop stealing and wasting our money) and thereby stop disgracing your family?"

This reporter has made my day. Ojo, f he has conscience will go home sober. That question must had cleared his "eyes" as a result of so much drink from the "Aso Rock Brew" call Power. That is why they are all "Power Drunk".

The funniest was when he was looking for "MOPOL" to take away the guy.
Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by sjeezy8: 6:16pm On Jan 23, 2010
The content of the question was on point but the way it was delivered was way OFF and uncalled for. Journalist are supposed to be unbiased. The question was asked in a manner as if Ojo killed the journalists mother or something. lol

Ojo's reaction wasnt professional either he should have kept calm and answered the question.
Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by babapupa: 6:18pm On Jan 23, 2010
The reporter wasn't even aggressive enough. These clown shouldn't be running a  freeking kindergarten talk less a Nation. These guys are not used to aggressive questioning, the reporters back in Naija don't nothing but prostrating and repeating honorable sir with every silly and mundane question.

Nigeria is one unlucky Nation,

I concur, journalists shld always show some level of restraint when goin about their job but desperate times require desperate measures. These are no ordinary times for every Nigerian thus the need throw away niceties & curtsies & take these jokers head on

"Who is in charge of this place?'' . . . LWKMD  grin grin  For a second he thought he was in Nigeria. I must agree with some posters that the journalist's method of delivery was very crude. There are several ways to throw this goon off balance and make him sheeeit in his pants without sounding  crude and frustrated.
Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by Nobody: 6:41pm On Jan 23, 2010
Now, even when the Oyinbo guy rephrased the question, Mr Minister went round and round and refused to anwser the simple question. The reporter did a great job.
Re: Ojo Maduekwe Talking Rubbish @ Un Press Conference by oluclem(m): 8:30pm On Jan 23, 2010
Abeg, the guy has done a great job. It's the naughty minister who is a member of AGIP (All Government In Power) that should have answer the question.
this same minister was one of the people that told us Jonathan is in charge, while we all know that Jonathan was not the CIC (Comander in Chief).

God will punish everyone that is disturbing this country. We have had enough

In Nigeria, we have our ways of delivering messages. One cas say "I love you" in a passionate manner or in a hostile manner. The guy clearly delivered a legitimate question in an insulting manner.

@all
Maduekwe compunded it by calling the man miserable. A foreign minister should not be using such words. He could have said that "you have lived in a foreign country for so long, you have forgotten our culture".

And the man said the minister is miserable! That is too far. No matter the imperfections of Maduekwe (and his fellow scoundrels in the PDP government), right at that time, the guy was addressing a representative of the Nigerian state.

Maduekwe got part of it right! What should he have said? That he has no authority?

Maybe he could have said "we draft the policies and Mr President approves and we have been running this thing since 2007 and we always know what to do - both the presidency and the Ministry. So policies are in place and don't change in 60 days. And of course Mr VP is part of the presidency and has been part of the team since 2007." Period. That would do.
