What a Country!
200 tons of dates donated by Saudi Arabia for distribution to IDPs and other indigent Nigerians have been diverted and being sold in markets in Abuja. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement apologising to the Saudi authorities, promising to investigate the matter and urging them to continue with "close cooperation" between the two countries.
This story is as embarrassing as it is depressing. For how long would we continue to ridicule ourselves before the whole world for infinitesimal things? Why do we need accept donation of dates from any country in the first place? Now that we have allowed some miscreants to divert same, why should we be begging the same country to continue donating?
You would begin to wander what kind of corruption we are fighting. Nigerians are yet to hear anything on the fate of those who diverted food stuff meant for IDPs and those who raped IDPs before giving them the very food meant for them.
I am sick and tired of being subjected to international ridicule by those who do not know their self worth.
