Before I proceed, let me say the following...

First, some people will misunderstand this humble post. That's okay though. As they say, I am responsible for what I said, you're responsible for what you understand and believe. Second, I wish to reiterate that I believe in the Igbo cause. I believe in the Biafra project. In fact, I am more Biafra than some IPOB members.

That said, it still behoves me to look at issues holistically and form an opinion. As a counsellor, I look at issues 360 degrees and then offer my stand. While the more emotional IPOB member may disagree with me, the more matured Igbo man and Biafran will understand what I mean.

I think that Nnamdi Kanu is undoing what he has done so far by his utterances. Some of his recent utterances are causing more harm than good. It's understandable that he speaks the way he does cos he's not an elected official. But it's wrong to assume that his words do not matter, but his message. So here's why I believe this guy should take a chill pill for now.

1. HE HAS MADE HIS POINT -

NK started out with dishing out all manner of hate speeches. This is not debatable as they are all on the public domain. As at then, he was not known. He was not popular. But today, he has become more popular than many Igbo politicians (no thanks to Buhari and his tyranic disposition). His words then can be overlooked, but right now, people people will pick at everything he says. They will judge him based on his words.

2. WORDS BUILD OR DESTROY -

The Holy book says that death and life are in words. In the words of Yehuda Berg, "Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble."

Nnamdi Kanu is now a leader. His words now count so much and can either help, build, restore, or destroy the Biafra quest. He will now be held more accountable by his words.

3. WE NEED TO BUILD BRIDGES NOW, NOT DESTROY THEM -

For crying out loud, no one, individual or nation, can grow in isolation. The Biafra quest has become a great force. This is time to build bridges now. It's no longer time to throw stones and insult everyone (especially our neighbors) who made mistakes in the past. This is the time to talk and plead for alliances. Yes, some will still castigate you. But in the end, they will regret when they remember you for the hand of friendship you extended to them, which they rejected, and not thank God that they rejected you.

4. BIAFRA IS BIGGER THAN NNAMDI KANU -

It's foolhardy for NK or others to think that he holds the key to the Biafra reality. NK is just a piece in the puzzle and not the entire puzzle. He is just one in the entire process. I've known extremely important Igbos in diverse places, who don't even talk online or in the media, who are pro Biafrans. I laugh when some people online say that the Biafra agitators are youths and touts. That's wrong. Many heavyweights, in many fields, are pro Biafrans.

That's why NK needs to put himself in check. His words, actions and inactions can hinder or deter the entire process, years after he is no longer in the forefront. That's what he needs to realize. That's what we need to make him understand and then help him to watch his words and actions carefully.

5. IF WE WANT A PEACEFUL SECESSION, THEN WE MUST LEARN DOGGED NEGOTIATION-

I find it hard to corroborate words of hate with peaceful exit from the union. You cannot say you want to exit peacefully, yet flare all embers with hateful words. Surely that's not how to exit and get your country peacefully.

Every action gets an equal reaction. When you dish out words of hate repeatedly, you'll get words or war, threat to life, hate and attack back. Is that difficult to understand?

I pray those who have access to Kanu to be objective with him right now. The Biafra quest must not be destroyed or relegated as some childish field plays. He has done a good job by bringing it this far. But he must not destroy it by hitting below the belt repeatedly. He has made his point. It's time to change strategy.

What this one is saying is that Kanu should be urged to step down after almost 2 years in jail so that someone who has brushed his tongue well can step in to lick Hausa and Yorubas a$$ so that they can consider giving us Biafra.

If you truly believe in Biafra, why not go on and start your own movement?

Don't go about telling IPOB how to operate. IPOB had already done the ground work. I also learnt that they are about to establish an apex clearing house for all the pro-Biafran groups and structures.

So what are you waiting for?

Did you elect Kanu to the position he is occupying?

Why ask him to step down?

Why not start a complementary movement and key into the framework and ground works he has already established?

Or, as a professional counselor, are you just comfortable talking the talk but won't lift a toe to walk the walk?

How exactly do you intend to build these bridges and with who?
What do you mean by ''(especially our neighbors) who made mistakes in the past''? are you saying only your neighbors made mistakes, Igbos didn't make mistakes.
This horrendous feeling that anyone owes you any form of gratitude, loyalty, recompenses or dues will always be the greatest undoing of Igbos.
Nobody owes anybody anything in Nigeria.
The only thing that is still unsettled and keeping Nigeria is how to liquidate our financial liabilities to the International world.
We are all tired of ourselves.

Good to hear. But asking him to step down is over the board. You can appeal to him on how being more tactful could help the cause faster. No need to ask him to step down. You should also note that his recent critical rhetoric about GEJ seems to have done one good thing for the movement: it has clearly shown that IPOB is not a PDP stooge. This may be NK's aim.
