I have noticed that it is 'norm' that when eating we invite the people around us (even if you don't know them) to partake in eating with us when we know that the person(s) is likely to say NO.I don't do it but I feel I am been disrespectful to the person.what do you guys think?

Yoruba stuff, right?

I dont know why we have to do that anyway.

Is it all Yorubaland or just some specific parts that have this habit.

lol when visiting Nigeria for the first time my Mom had to give me a list of things to do and not to do.
this was one of them.
whenever eating you should always invite whoever is around to join you.
so yes, i think it is compulsory in Nigeria or whatever part you're in.

Hmmm i most say its compulsory,it think its part of our culture (Igbo). If im eating and did not invite any body around to join me,The person like my relations always do they will jokingly tell me 'i dont want to eat so continue eating stingy boy' so i think if you're eating and did not always invite people around you to join you,you will be regarded as a stingy person or unsharing person.thier is one Igbo proverb that says 'He who eats alone dies alone' meaning: a person who help people, dine alone or person that did not want people around him/her when the person have problem or needs help nobody will come for him/her.
