Former Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to two former Heads of State, late General Sani Abacha and General Abdulsallami Abubakar (rtd), Chief David Attah, is dead.

Attah, 71, died yesterday at about 6:45a.m. at a private hospital in Jos, the Plateau State capital where he was being treated for an undisclosed ailment.

The death of the renowned journalist was made known by his younger bother and Permanent Secretary in the Benue State Ministry of Information, Mr. Elvis Attah.
Until his death, Attah held the traditional titles of Ondoma K’Idoma, Enyioma of Ibeku and Oyame of Igumale.
Many sympathisers were seen at the family house in North bank area when THISDAY visited the Makurdi home of the late septuagenarian,



Meanwhile, members of his family are yet to announce his burial arraignment.
Attah hails from Igumale, Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, has bemoaned the demise of Attah, describing it as a huge loss to both the nation and the media industry.

Adesina, according to a statement by Deputy Director, Information in the State House, Mr. Attah Esa, sent a condolence message to the family of the deceased, eulogising him for his notable service to the nation as a journalist, politician and opinion leader.

According to Adesina, Attah did not only carve a niche for himself in his journalism career, he was also a strong voice in the nation’s political terrain as a member of the House of Representatives in the Second Republic.
He added that the Ondoma of Idoma land would long be remembered for his candid views, measured and mature contributions to national discourse.

He enjoined media professionals and colleagues to draw inspiration from the career of Attah and urged the family of the late journalist to take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life.

“On behalf of current and former presidential spokespersons, Adesina prayed that Almighty God will comfort the bereaved family, friends and associates, and grant the soul of Chief Attah peaceful rest,” the statement added.
