Ehmm, Research has shown that buying ticket from a foreign country can be alot expensive, because at times some airlines include foreign transaction charges. And because some websites request for your country of origin, this also doesnt help.
If I'm booking a flight from Naija, it can be a lot cheaper, than booking that same flight from an international country and vice versa. The only thing that makes it look more expensive from Naija is cos of the exchange rate if you're paying in Naira.

On a lighter note, I also believe its like that cos they believe in most case, its very important for you to travel to your country, (You may not have a choice), and so the prices are raised.

ITA Software matrix also helps in this regard. Although you cant buy your ticket from it, but you can specify where you're buying the ticket from and get better deals.

All these are based on international flights.
Not sure how Domestic works though.
