Truly there are dirty places in dubai if u leave in marina,bur dubai,downtown,etc and u dnt go out much then you'll think everywhere is paradise but to say the fact op and people that belief dubai is a poor city if it's possible practically/magically/anythingcally that UAE government reach an agreement with Nigerian govt. to take lagos and give us dubai i.e move d whole of lagos(,all the houses/slum,danfo, bad roads,mosquitoes,our yeye train,etc) will be move to dubai and move dubai to the vacant land of former lagos i believ u won,t against it.even sharjah is better than lagos and abuja combined nt to talk of the capital abu dhabi

Dubai as a Brand has been the brain child of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He has created this aura that Dubai is RICH and that it is happening.

Truth truth however is far from it.

It is EXACTLY like any other country.

The only difference being - whatever is being shown on the Media is totally controlled by the Ministry of Media & Communications - which is the Government.

And they have one and only one Agenda - to keep the image that Dubai, UAE is forever rich.

If you doubt what I have to say - ask yourself - why is it that is absolutely NO POOR person pictured or pictures or news that is talked about openly?

How come recession has never hit Dubai, UAE?

How comes Emirates Airlines is the ONLY airlines IN THE WORLD minting Profits and Profits (with only one year loss so as to give a good reason to cancel the excess orders of over-purchasing Boeing aircrafts) while all other airlines ALL OVER THE WORLD are suffering losses or closing down?

How comes NO ONE hears about the unpaid salaries? Prostitution business? Corporate Racism? Jail Stories in the UAE?

In fact - are you even aware that if you write something about the UAE when in the UAE - you can get jailed & deported ASAP? EVEN IF it is the truth?

DO YOU KNOW that if you EVEN LIKE something on facebook - A Group or comment that speaks negatively about the Country (for example now that UAE has broken ties with QATAR - if you EVEN wear a shirt that supports Qatar or send a message support Qatar - its bye bye for you?)

Don’t get me wrong - I do not hate UAE. But the truth is the truth.

In fact - haven’t you even asked yourself WHY was Burj Dubai’s name changed to Burj Khalifa AT THE DAY OF THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH ONLY - when it was marketed for years and years as Burj Dubai

Simple.

Because Dubai is NOT rich. it ONLY SHOW YOU the mirage that it is rich.

There are Hundreds of Thousands of Horror Stories of Unpaid Salaries, Dishonored Contracts & Massive Debts that no one hears about.

Dubai is just surviving because it shows it has Billions and Billions of Dollars - which is not true.

I know it because I am the second generation of Expats that lived there for 40 years.

Today Dubai is only surviving on charging its expats very high indirect taxes to live, survive and remain in its country.

All the expensive cars, vehicles, parties, lifestyles - is only people living on Credit and showing off to rub shoulders with the whose who.

But the reality is - every single day people are struggling to pay their bills and survive.

You want to know the reality of Dubai - stop seeing what they show you on the media - it is all planned out and well thought off. Most of it is fake, or incomplete or false.

Check what happened to the property bubble?

Check what happened to the World Islands?

Thanks op for this post , you ain't far from the truth at all ,lived in UAE for 4years and I can say that's the simple truth , u can never see any bad news on the news but that doesn't show its not happening, one day I asked my hubby if people die in dubai at all and he said cos I'm not seeing it in the news does that mean it's not happening ,wen u see laborers working inside the heat for peanut salary u ll weep for them .too much cheap labour, expensive medical services , expensive schools and so on .having a normal child delivery could cost as high as 700k something one can pay for just 30-50k in Niger funny thing is that your child wouldn't b given permanent residence or passport that's y I pefer to come back home and ve my kids ..do u know Nigerians r also part of the people developing dubai, since recession dubai business economy went totally down .I see UAE as a place for tourist visits not to live in cos the standard of living is too high to raise a family there .

I don't think it's fair comparing Lagos with Chicago. Lagos is a state and a city while Chicago is a city and the capital of Ilinois.
I think the comparisons should be Chicago vs Ikeja or Lagos vs IIlinois.

I didn't read this from a Newspaper ..this is where I live. And right there is the problem, we do not appreciate what we have. Most Americans for all they care; we still live in trees and that's because of what some of you post on the internet. I will say it again ..Lagos is as developed as Chicago in all ramifications!

This is absolutely true ...I remember once I wanted to convince my colleagues at work that Lagos is actually as developed as Chicago...I went on internet and the only pictures there were that of crowded Oshodi and Slums. Well…exactly the same way Donald Trump and Melania Trump show the world that they are so happily married together.

I think you are seriously struggling to convince me that Dubai is not a rich country. I don't want to buy that my brother. In as much as there exist poor ppl and not-too-well-developed areas in the country still does not make it not a rich country. No matter how rich a country may be, there must still exist poor ppl and rural or undeveloped areas, but the difference is how important are those ppl to the government and how much amenities the government provide for them even at that their poor state.

Dubai is a very rich country. If the country is faking its richness and is still able to provide to her visitors and her citizens with those good and beautiful things and still has a stable economy, my dear the country is very rich.
The only truth there is that Dubai is not a greener pasture for foreigners seeking for job especially if you are not a professional. Don't go to Dubai seeking for a job. You will regret it. The country is good for relaxation, fun and transact a biz den go back to ur country.

Let me give u an example. Let's assume that i am a flamboyant person and chooses to live a high life just to convince ppl that i am very rich. If i am able to maintain this high life for many years, my brother, i am a very rich man. U may argue that in my family that some of my siblings are poor. This still does not deny the fact that i am a rich guy. What i spend a day in my flamboyant lifestyle can make one or two of those my poor siblings rich, but making them rich is not my priority rather to live a life that will make ppl kw i have money.

So my brother, let's leave that great country. She is very rich. Instead of trying to talk her down, we need to use our own media to deceive ppl that our country is good and let them also patronize us the same way they are currently doing in Dubai.

There's definitely more crime in lagos than Chicago but it's just that in Lagos, it's more widespread and is not limited to some areas. In cities like Chicago and others in America, crime is synonymous with specific areas, mostly areas with relative poverty.

The only reason why Lagos is mentioned alongside places like Chicago is because it's population. How exactly do you want to compare Lagos with Chicago. Which metric are you going to use. Is it the provision of the basic amenities, electricity, industries. In what areas is Lagos at the same level with Chicago.
