WARRI – THE Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, has suspended his plan to confer the vacant title of Ologbotsere (Prime Minister) of Warri kingdom on Chief Ayiri Emami in response to the mass protest by his subjects who besieged his palace Tuesday.

Teeming Jakpa people, owners of the exalted Itsekiri heritage title, joined by other subjects had surrounded the palace at dawn on Tuesday, shutting all entrances to entry and exit to all persons to the palace with a vow to stay put till the Olu rescinds the choice of Ayiri who they termed as unqualified for the title.

Also suspended by the monarch were the conferment of the titles of Iyatsere on Chief Johnson Atserunleghe and Uwangue on Mr. Gabriel Awala. Alex Eyengho who disclosed the development to Vanguard said, “The Olu graciously listened to the voice of the Itsekiri people.

He has already sent words to the concerned families that the Itsekiri people do not want the three men, and as such, fresh names should be submitted. “Ogiame however advised all protesters to work within the concerned families with a view to ensuring that the right names are submitted this time around.

The Protest At The Palace Today Over The Ologbotsere Title: Another Misplaced Priority.

From time immemorial, the conferment of chieftaincy title on any deserving sons and daughters of Itsekiri nation rest squarely with the Olu who has the PREROGATIVE to independently choose from screened or selected candidates presented by the familes or communities that are entitled to that title. That has always been Itsekiri tradition. As we speak, that tradition has not CHANGED.

On this Ologbotsere title, it is pertinent to reiterate that specific families and communities in Warri Kingdom are the ONLY people entitled to this title. It is NEVER a general thing that just ANY ITSEKIRI can assume or lobby for. It not an election whose outcome should be protested against or challenged in court. We know that those behind this protest are aware of this traditional facts. The reason for this protest can therefore not be understood by curious minds. It will not be farfetched to conclude that those who slept on their beds and came up with this protest idea, are trying to politicise everything that comes out of the Palace thereby suggesting erroneously that whatever does not come from certain quarters can not stand in the kingdom. This kind of repeated negative method of showing displeasure in a matter that is completely an exclusive preserve of the Ologbotsere family and and the Olu, is to say the least mischievous.

It is on record that Jakpa, Koko, Obonteghareda, Bobi, Ebrohimi Obaharo are all children of Ologbotsere entitled to occupy this great and important position. For the sake of equity, justice and fairness, it was agreed among the various families and communities entitled to the Ologbotsere title to zone or rotate the position among themselves. With this understanding, Obaghoro community was chosen to present the next Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom. This is where the IYA family of Obaghoro where Chief Ayiri Emami and Chief Eyewuma came into the equation. It is also imperative to NOTE that apart from this two prominent indigenes of Obaghoro community entitled to this position , NO other qualified individual from the various Ologbotsere descendants or Obaghoro has shown his opposition to the gentlemanly understanding among the communities who are both the TRADITIONAL and LEGAL owners of the title. For some persons to be crying wolf in a matter that do not concern them, is hatred.

We are all aware that protest of this magnitude, is not healthy for our kingdom at this point in time. It is also worrisome that since the ascension of the throne by his majesty Ogiame Ikenwoli the Olu of Warri, these protest against his pronouncements on issues like the IRDC and INYC, have been coming from one known quarter. This unnecessary heating up of the polity will not solve Itsekiri problems.

The constant mobilization of our impoverished old women and youths to challenge their king by political figures and community leaders who have not used their positions to affect the lives of the paid protesters is not in the interest of our people and kingdom.

This new found LOVE, CONCERN and PATRIOTISM for Warri Kingdom survival that the sponsors of this protest claim is responsible for their opposition to the conferment of title on anyone the Olu deem fit, should be channelled towards providing jobs for our jobless Itsekiri youths that are been used as we speak to cause us this shame.

Our deserted communities that are been taken over by our rivals should be able to prompt those behind this protest to action. Their attention was needed as strong political heavyweights when our community names were be changed and imposters collected 23 billion naira for the maritime university. They never mobilized to protest. They were also aware of the illegal relocation of the headquarters of the Warri south west local government area case at the supreme court, they did not come out to protest. What about the twin protests in Chevron, they did not deem it fit to mobilize these youths because that is their farm. But that do not worry them. Going to bed hungry after roaming the street everyday should elicit a protest likewise the inhuman agreements that the proponents of this protest signed that has taken away the economic liberty of our people.

We therefore wish to call on Itsekiri Youths and old women not to be used against their Olu. The Itsekiri problem is not actually about the Ologbotsere title. What we need is job for our youths, empowerment for our women and provision of basic amenities for our people and communities. Unfortunately, those behind this shameful protest do not care about these problems. All they care about is how they can give peanuts to hungry youths and women they denied the essentials of life back in our communities to foment trouble while their wives and children enjoy the wealth of the community and government funds meant for the development of our homelands that they looted. Do not become a tool to be used against your own kingdom.

We call on his majesty Ogiame Ikenwoli the Olu of Warri to follow his traditionally guaranteed rights to rule and reign over his God given kingdom for the collective interest of his subjects. We urge the king NEVER to yield to any internal or external pressure from Anyone or group who are bent on truncating his vision for our great kingdom.

We call on the promoters and sponsors of the protest to go back home and look for positive things they can do to improve the lives of their own people and change the situation of their under developed communities.

Those accusing their own brother of not been good enough to take the Ologbotsere title should remember that he who points a finger at his brother for wrongdoing, has the rest four fingers pointing at him.

Those who come to equity must come with clean hands.

Those who have personal scores to settle with anyone for past grievances should not use our pristine throne and palace to settle such scores.

Itsekiri youths and women be wise. Our major problem is extreme poverty ravaging our people, massive youth unemployment, gross and unacceptable under development of our communities, annexation and forceful occupation of our ancestral homelands, bad leadership, sales of Itsekiri job slots, bad agreements and conditions of services on our people and daily presence of strangers in Dibi, Olero, Ugborodo, Uton Nana, Makaraba, NNPC, SPDC, Offshore platforms and barges etc. If they love the kingdom, let them show you how to get jobs in this places.

Do no be deceived, NO CHIEF can be more powerful than the Olu of Warri or is capable of destroying our kingdom. It is just not possible.

Some people can't oppose IRDC, INYC and be opposing Ogiame choice for Ologbotsere. If they are not comfortable, let them go and Nominate their own Ologbotsere, after all, that is their stock in trade.

In a Palace where the Olu is supreme and the Olu in council has some chiefs piloting the affairs of the kingdom with him, it is not correct to deceive gullible Itsekiri, that ONE CHIEF can turn the kingdom upside down. Such power do not exist anywhere. This is pure hatred and deceit. Any Chief who flouts the tradition and culture of our people, can be shown the exit door by the Olu anytime. This include the Ologbotsere. So let no one create the wrong picture of doom in the minds of our people as reasons behind their ulterior motives to create tension in the kingdom whenever they do not have their way.
