The discovery attracts huge international media attention, as experts from across the world rush to Kano to assess the quality, quantity, and efficacy of the new mineral/energy source.

All agree the discovery is indeed earth-shaking, and capable of catapulting Nigeria to the top 3 nations on earth within the space of 3 to 5 years, maximum. And in monetary terms, by far the richest nation on the face of the earth.

A sudden dramatic surge in international visa applications from all corners of the world, as people get desperate to partake in the newfound, dramatic, and amazing wealth suddenly bestowed upon Nigeria.

In the midst of this drama, IPOB meekly sends its representatives to Abuja, begging the federal government to rescind its decision to grant them secession, following the pre-discovery referendum held in which Igbos had voted overwhelmingly to secede from Nigeria.

I can bet my last penny that this will be the outcome.


It wouldn't matter though. The majority will still remain poverty stricken. Similar to the abject poverty seen among most indigenous inhabitants of the Niger Delta. This is a well known outcome of the dependence on crude resources. The greed and self-centeredness of the elite will see it so.

The time honoured approach towards development is investment in human intellectual capital. The availability or lack of skilled human resources have far-reaching implications on long term prosperity in any society.
