I'm not a big fan of Nigerian football. However, it became clear that I had to be a victim... So here I am watching NPL games. I've approximately watched 10 NPL games in my life. The only time I ever watch is during league games. Of course, only when Heartland or Calabar Rovers is playing. I could not care less about any of the others, and the main reason I watch these games is because my in law plays for Heartland fc and I feel like it is a social obligation.
On Sunday I went to see d game btwn Heartland and Crown fc. I sat behind the Crown fc goal during the second period of d game. Heartland fc had created several chances, had several shots on target but the goalie proved to be as good as Manuel Nueur. Midway through d game, Heartland fc players discovered a necklace inside d crown fc goal which they protested against. Towards the end of d game(86th mins played), one of the ball boys went behind the Crown fc goal, took the necklace and threw it towards the spectators amid cheers. The moment the necklace was taken, Heartland's next shot went towards goal and beyond the goalie. That proved to be the winning goal.
It became obvious the goalkeeper's talisman had been taken and the ball boy was handsomely rewarded by my cousin and other fans. Thank God there was no riot at the end of the game, something Nigerian supporters are sadly famous for...
