Yoruba people are indeed a unique bunch i have found my stay in Yoruba land particularly interesting and i want to highlight top ten things i have found interesting and fascinating among them. Here are ten things i like about yoruba people.

1. They have so many Unisex names
Yoruba’s have so many unisex names that you cannot easily point out which name belongs to a boy and which name belongs to a girl. Names like bunmi, ola, biola, bimbo, taiwo and kehinde (a popular name for twins), shola and many many more are all names that both males and females bear.

2. They have a high number of twins
Yoruba’s are the twin hub of Nigeria. You can see Taiwo and Kehinde’s all over the place. These people are blessed with twin’s without doubt. They have the highest birth-rate of twin’s in Nigeria as a country.

3. They love exchanging greetings and frivolities
Yoruba people do not joke with respect, manners and greetings. It is a core part of their culture to bring up well-mannered children. They can exchange greetings to a very high extent. They love communicating, talking and exchanging pleasantries with each other.

4. They love that thing called stew in their meals
Yoruba people will use stew to cook egusi soup, use stew to eat okro soup, use stew in ewedu, vegetable and so on. Stew is a very integral part of their cooking and they love it.

5. If you have never being to a yoruba party you have never attended a party.
I hardly come across weekend’s without parties in yorubaland. Yoruba’s love partying, dancing, drinking and socializing with each other. Even when they don’t have much they manage to save up for a party and it’s not a surprise that food and drinks are always in abundance at this parties, even for strangers.

6. Yoruba People love education
Yoruba’s love schooling. A high number of yoruba people go to school. And apart from going to school they are also a very intelligent and brilliant bunch. They have the highest number of professor’s in Nigeria. Yoruba’s excel when it comes to academics.

7. They Have a Very Fertile Land For Agriculture
When it comes to farming Yoruba people are definitely a bunch you should not over-look. Their land is fertile and rich in agriculture. They produce cash crops like cocoa, cassava, yam to mention a few. They have a good harvest constantly.

8. The cost and prices of things are relatively low
Be it food, clothing items, land, transportation and others the prices of things are always low compared to other parts of the country. Maybe it’s because Yoruba people are a caring bunch. They always do not charge too much for their goods and services.

9. They have a wonderful sense of dressing, fashion and style
When it comes to looking good Yoruba’s are people that come to mind. They have beautiful and colourful traditional attires. Their women love make-ups and new clothes. Go to a Yoruba wedding, church or party to get your eyes blown out.

10. The are a musically talented bunch
They love music. They like singing and have many great musicians both dead and alive that originate from there. artists like Fela kuti, Sunny Ade, Pasuma Wonder, Davido, Wizkid, Asa, Darey Art Alade, Timi Dakolo, Simi, Adekunle gold, OLamide, Reminisce to mention just a little are all of Yoruba descent.

If Yorubas started belittling Igbo achievements in a thread of our own I'm sure you'd jump on them. Quit with all the petty tribalism. They're allowed to acknowledge their own achievements.
