How To Deal With Temptation by Godson222: 9:13am On Jul 30, 2017
In today’s episode, we will be looking at how to handle temptation. Temptation is an enticement, an allurement or a seduction. It is a strong desire or urge to have or do something that is bad.

In dealing with temptation, we must necessarily be conscious of it. It is only then, that we can make up our minds to overcome.

Our consciousness of temptation helps us to abstain. When we are conscious , we are careful not to meddle with it and by extension fall into sin. Temptation in itself is not sin, but sin arises only when we yield.

Genesis 3:5-6 KJV

[5] For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. [6] And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

From the passage above, the devil in tempting Eve, got her because of two things:

1. She listened to what the devil was saying

2. She looked and beheld that the tree was good for food and pleasant to the eyes.

In dealing with temptation therefore it is advisable to learn abstinence. The Bible tells us to abstain from all appearances of evil. (1 Thess 5:22).

The appearance of evil, though not sin in itself, can lead us into sin if we do not abstain. King David walked the roof top of his house when men had gone to war. The devil then showed him an appearance of evil by way of a naked woman taking her bath. If he had quickly turned away he would not have fallen.

Also remember Joseph and Potiphar’s wife. How that he overcame by running for his dear soul leaving his garment in the hand of the adulterous woman.

Job learnt and understood the need for abstinence.

Job 31:1 KJV

[1] I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

You too can do the same.!!

Ephesians 4:27 says ” Neither give place to the devil”. This we can do through abstinence. But we must dwell strongly in the word if we must overcome.

Psalm 119:9 KJV

[9] Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

To stop sin from it root, just divorce the self. ur sense of own self is an illusion. when ur no more in the self, u are free from sickness and death. yes death.

temptation comes from the flesh (Satan).trial comes from God. when temptation comes, we see the fingerprints of Satan. and when trial comes we see the fingerprints of God.

No 1.
Take the word of God as ultimate guide and stop being curious to know the effect of its transgression. Except it's a scientific research, don't experiment!

This generation is so adrift the right path. Here is a thread meant to edify us and yet people are avoiding it like plague. If it were some immoral or secular thread, it will be swarming with people. I am disappointed in a lot of nairalanders. Too canal minded.

Op in addition to what you said, truth is each individual has a besetting sin he or she is struggling with. The most important thing is to depend on GOD's grace to help you get back up after occasionally falling into same sin.
