Akunyili's Letter To Aondoakaa by Sunnybobo3(m): 5:40am On Feb 11, 2010
Following reports in the media over alleged libelous statement made by the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) against the Minister of Information and Communication, Prof. Dora Akunyili, the latter yesterday wrote Aondoakaa who is now the Minister of Special Duties, giving him seven days to substantiate his allegation.

In a letter addressed to Aondoakaa, Akunyili is seeking clarification from him on report by a national daily where he was credited with the statement, "let her go and confront herself with what happen in NAFDAC".
The letter reads: "I am really concerned about your reference to NAFDAC. This is because the statement carries the unmistakable innuendo that I did something untoward and unwholesome while in NAFDAC, it is unfortunate that you have turned my memo to council into a personal attack"

Akunyili further stated that, "your statement means and was understood by the readers to mean that I had while in NAFDAC committed something wrong, I am by this letter insisting that your confirm if the statement credited to you is true. If your answer is no, I am giving you seven (7) days to refute the statement in the said publication, or supply full particulars of your allegation of my misdeeds in NAFDAC to which you alluded to,” he said.

In the event of your failing to so comply, however, I will be left with no alternative than to refer the whole matter to my solicitors for their necessary actions".

The letter is coming admits the controversy that trailed President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s absence from office, leading to a resolution by the National Assembly on Tuesday empowering Goodluck Jonathan to assume the powers of Acting President.

Though, Aondoakaa has been moved to Special Duties, no comment has been heard from him about the latest development. The former Minister of Justice was quoted by a national daily to have accused Akunyili of wanting to be seen as a populist and that her memo is an attempt to "make herself an angel and a cheap hero".

I have been worried since Dora tookthe ministerial appointment that her inegrity will be compromised.
this last few weeks hashowever allyed my fears

when will Nigerians realise that false accusations disrespect for people's integrity is fast becoming out of fashion.

In the developed world u dare not accuse anyone without adequate evidence.

I look at the way we treat one another and we way we talk to pple here tht i wonder if we belong to the human race at all

the man shld speak up, this time he stepped on the wrong foot.

if Dora wants explanation so be it,

Go get him Mrs Akunyili. I perceive a well calculated conspiracy against this fool called Aondoakaa to kick him out of Govt. diplomatically. Let's see how this plays out.

The stupid man has already done so. I think Nigeria is gaining some momentum when it comes to law. All this does not happen before, where one person will challenge another out-rightly. Good development 9ja. Its a slow but good move towards the right direction.

Aondoaka's Apology

The immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), on Thursday apologised to the Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili, over disparaging remarks in a newspaper report.
Aondoakaa, who was redeployed to the Ministry of Special Duties on Wednesday by Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, was reported by a national daily (not The PUNCH) as having described Akunyili as someone seeking cheap popularity.
In the report published on Monday, the former AGF said Akunyili’s controversial memo asking ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua to hand over power to Jonathan, was “self-seeking.”
Speaking further on the memo, which was rejected last week by members of the Federal Executive Council, he advised her to go and confront unstated issues about her tenure at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
Aondoakaa reportedly said, “What she is trying to do is self-seeking. Let her go and confront herself with what happened in NAFDAC.”
The information minister swiftly replied Aondoakaa by telling him in a letter to clarify the comments in the story within seven days or face legal action.
But, in a February 9, 2010 letter to Akunyili, tiled “Re: Retraction of libellous publication,” Aondoakaa adopted a conciliatory tone.
Addressing Akunyili as “My Dear Sister,” he wrote, “I wish to draw your attention to the above subject matter conveyed by your letter dated February 8, 2010.
“While much of the quoted words in your letter can rightly be ascribed to me, the import of the last sentence, to the effect that ‘let her go and confront herself with what happened in NAFDAC’ was meant to be in the positive but was wrongly presented in the negative.
“The correct import of the above quoted words is that the honourable minister had already earned a reputation for herself while at NAFDAC and needs not seek to do more by embarking on the present course of action to the detriment of a resolution already adopted unanimously by members of the FEC.
“Accept the assurances of my highest regards and consideration.”

This statement is vague and admits nothing yet achieving the desired effect. na waoh; that means Aondoakaa can choose to be "intelligent" when it serves his interest.
