Zikist Movement's Reaction: Of course, not all Yorubas are saints just as not all Igbo’s are saints, but we must appreciate the courageous actions of people like Soyinka who went to jail for Ndigbo during the Biafran civil war; Fela who fearlessly spoke truth to power; Adekunle Fajuyi, who chose to die with his boss Ironsi in 1966 out of principle- they are many, even in everyday life- many Yorubas who have shown amazing courage.

We are currently impressed with Fayose, a man so honest that he sent Ekiti Yoruba boys to learn trading from Ndigbo. Rather than denigrate Ndigbo for their ‘success in trade’ he chose to learn from them. Kudos (for now) to Fayose.

Update: Obi1kenobi was roasted on the Nairaland thread (lol) for saying the truth but has clapped back well, even though he is wrong to call out Igbos for praising themselves (nothing wrong with Igbos praise themselves if they are telling the truth).

There should be a difference between blaming Yoruba's and blaming Awolowo. Awolowo gave Igbos only 20 pounds but in everyday life, I have seen countless Yorubas so kind and hospitable, you will begin to wonder if they are descendants of Abraham who accommodated strangers, not knowing they were angels God sent to earth for a mission, and thus brought divine favour to his house. And here I am talking about both Yoruba Muslims and Christians.

Of course, no ethnic group are complete saints, but Igbos should not be deceived to transfer Awolowo's percieved sins to innocent Yoruba's who would have opposed him if they could.

About the Yorubas and the Igbos...

Today some unfortunate Igbos attack the Yorubas of being friends with the Hausa/Fulanis. In fact, the Igbos have always been the friends of the Hausa/Fulanis.

While in '99 the Yorubas were in support of Olu Falae against the Obasanjo because they believed Obasanjo is a friend of the North by handing over to Sheu Shagari when he left power as military head of state, the Igbos formed alliance with the hausa/fulanis. They wanted the presumed 'friend of the North' to be president over them.

Remember that again the Igbos loved the hausa/fulani so much that they continue to support the 'party of the hausa/fulanis than supporting their hero of defunct Biafra, Chief Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu who also contested for the president of Nigeria. Odumegwu Ojukwu performed poorly in Igbo land because they were in love with the party the northern loved.

Against the Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikwe teamed up with the Hausa/Fulanis to make sure Awolowo a southerner never become president. Of course they loved the hausa/fulani so much.

It is now so surprising when igbo youths especially ipod supporters here on nairaland cry to high heavens about the Yorubas choosing to be ally with the hausa/fulani. So shameful... So disheartening

Nothing is in it for us when we yab each others regions. It is a sign of an irresponsible fellow.
