Please my fellow Nairalanders, can a man ask a lady to marry her without giving her a ring? He's gone to visit her people and fixed a date for introduction but still no ring.

Isn't he supposed to give her like two rings in total; Engagement and wedding ring?

a Ring is a symbol of love and marriage, but at the end of the day its just a symbol. its not proof of marriage. proof is in the certificate or the witnesses to the marriage. If both parties agree o go without a ring......then its their business. the AGREEMENT is the KOKO

We are not white people, Rings are not important in marriage, we have cultures and traditions, if your marriage is based on a ring then you're in for a real heartbreak.

That is not set in stone. The western view of what an engagement is does not not necessarily fit in with the Nigerian way of doing things. A ring is a symbol a promise if you will, however it's the intentions and outcome that matter at the end of the day.
There is no "supposed to" regarding this. Most rings will be sold as a pair ( you need to look for them) one is the engement ring and the other one is the wedding one. If the engagement is broken the man is meant to have his ring back.
