The Pledge

"I pledge to Nigeria my country, to be faithful, loyal and honest. To serve Nigeria will all my strength, to defend her unity, uphold her honour and glory, so help me God."

This was the oath we took everyday in secondary school because we had faith in this country but now I need to take a step backwards and rethink.

I pledge to Nigeria my country to be faithful, loyal and honest...., they say we lead my example, but how many of our leaders are faithful? Loyal? Or honest?

They lie to our faces daily, treating us as animals, as slaves in our own country. None of our leaders is faithful, loyal or honest. They beg for our vote and promise us heaven on earth but when they get into power, they turn their back at us, deceiving us daily.

To serve Nigeria with all my strength, to defend her unity and uphold her honour and glory..., Unity? Are we truly United?

How can I defend her unity when we are not United? The Youth in the north wants the Igbos to leave the area before October 1st, Killings by Boko Haram in the North, Kidnapping by Fulani herdsman, Bomb blast almost everyday, Ritualistic everywhere, Killing of Christians while they worship on Sunday, most persons want the country to be divided... So tell me what unity are we talking about??

What honour and glory should I uphold? The glory has been lost and I'm tired of serving wolves in sheep's clothing.

The country is on recession and our president is leading us from another country. A leader who cannot ride his horse is not fit to lead.

Some members of the House of Assembly are exchanging blows just for power, power to get wealth.

Our children who are the supposed leaders of tomorrow are at home due to yearly strike, our education system is in a state of confusion. I begin to wonder if Education is truly the key...

The poor are getting poorer, some commit suicide daily, Hunger eat and dine with us, we all are living in fears.

I cannot put on the TV anymore because I'm scared of the next bad news I will hear so I listen to 'Tekno' and 'Wizkid's ' music everyday since its the best pain reliever.

There is sorrow in my heart, tears in my heart but what else can I do? I write, at least that's what I'm good at. Writing my sorrows on a piece of paper, hoping that one-day things will change.

Oh, that word 'CHANGE', they promised us Change, and indeed you are experiencing the Change.

So what's the way forward? What's the solutions?

My pastors told me to keep on praying. I have prayed enough, I've lost count of prayer points, now I await the manifestation.

They say actions speaks louder than words and we should be the Change we want to see and not wait for they that promised change.

Enough of the lies and dishonesty. I've had enough. I'm slave to no man and I pledge to no man.

This is me and I will change my world with my words and letters. Doing things on my own terms, so help me God

For the night is near and full of terror.
Winter is coming
