Writing has been my passion since childhood but I've been so reluctant to follow it not until a friend got me a job in a famous magazine blog and now I'm forced to write

This is the first story I'll be doing for free, LoL. I hope y'all like it

This story is dedicated to all the fighters out there, those silent fighters with the brightest smiles and loudest laugh but are silently fighting depression. I just want you to know that you are not alone and will never be. Keep the flags high!!!

"You are such a waste of time, a fool and a witch and I wish I had aborted you" mama shouted as she kept on pummeling Kate

"Ah ah wetin happen mama K? Wetin she do?" Amara a light skinned Igbo girl who was their neighbor rushed to the rescue of Kate who was already bruised all over with blood rushing down her nose

"You see this..this goat, this fowl dey talk back at me because she done dey follow big big prick" mama K managed to say in between short breaths

"Ah katty why na? Why u dey follow mummy run mouth na? You don forget say she be your mama" Amara scolded Kate

"Poor Kate, she tried to talk but was choked with tears. She had only refuted the accusation that she had something to do with Steven the next door neighbor when mama pounced on her making sure she was totally naked to the glaring eyes of the whole compound.

Sometimes she wondered if she was really her mother

Some say death is the worst thing to happen to a man
But what about living but dead inside

"Oh God, if only you can make my parents love me" Kate sobbed quietly using her pillow as her wipe.

As a 14years old girl, she haven't known much happy days. Everyone would expect that the brilliant and beautiful young child would bring immense joy to the parents but they hold a resentment against her, a resentment Kate is yet to know.

"come here, who don dey touch this your breast" papa K said angrily as he squeezed the small buds growing out of Kate's chest
"She tried to resist but the slap that followed rendered her to her knees and he roughly carries her to the bed" it was his usual routine. It was roughly 5years ago since he forceful took her virginity

Some would say one's childhood is the best part of life but I wish I that was always true

"Kate obong" wow!! I'm so perplexed at your writing skills, your essays are the best I've read so far since my teaching journey" the English teacher stammered trying to find the right words to suit his amazement
"What are you doing in a science class? You would make such a fine writer

"My..my pare.. I want to be a doctor uncle" that's why I'm in a science class" Kate trailed off. She knew telling uncle Sammy that her parents forced her to be in a science class would make the school authority to call her parents and try to persuade them to let her pursue her talent and that would spell doom for her

"Oh! Ok but you shouldn't let that talent go to waste, I would love to read one of your books someday" uncle Sammy encouraged.
He was a nice man and she wished she could confide in him but what if he's just like my father" she thought

"Katty afa na? You and Sam don dey run shows abi" it was her friend Abigail. She was probably the only person who made her smile

"Come make we go chop rice for mama sukirat place, hunger dey wire me" Abigail continued in pidgin English.
Their school was a semi completed building with three big rooms divided in six with plywood, it had another building opposite which serves as the administrative rooms and laboratories if you can call two cubicle rooms with just tables and chairs laboratories.
It was a private owned school but it was more suitable for training pigs than for learning.

Its was almost nine when they got home, mama k who owned a bar rarely closely early
"Kate oya go warm the soup and fetch water for me and your papa to baff" mama K shouted as she retired to one of the chairs in their two-room apartment

"She worked tirelessly fetching water from the next compound and preparing food for them to eat, this she did with the speed of light as wasting time would make beating "fall on her"

It was 10:30pm when she retired to bed, being an only child could be tiring. Before dozing off she said her usual prayers

"Lord make my parents love me

Death! Yes death is the ultimate cure, death would get rid of all the pain and torture. Yes!
"She reached for the small sachet she had safely tucked away, it was a locally made rat poison called otapaipai. She had gotten it in the afternoon after she closed from school

She mixed it as directed by the seller man, coated a piece of bread with it and ate it. After which she retired to bed hoping to be in "paradise" by the time she wakes up

I wrote articles for succyblinks

The worth is 8,000 Naira. Succyblinks has chosen not to pay me for my services citing unnecessary excuses that because I didn't put my surname in my bank details I supplied he/she won't pay me.

These are people who go to international sites, get paid between 2 and 5 dollar a word, hire us to work at 1 Naira per word and yet refuse to pay for services rendered

I worked for 3 clients and auto copied my bank details and sent to all. All remaining client paid. Succyblinks is refusing to pay me stating that I didn't put surname as a result I won't be paid.

Be this as it may, I informed Succyblinks that my account is my account and payment should be made for my service. He/she is trying to make a slave out of me and forcing me to " like the arse " for services I rendered... It should be clear to all that Succyblinks is not only cruel, a thief a cheat, a scammer. His/Her phone number and moniker should be registered into the forum's list of scammers

He/She has blocked me on WhatsApp and has refused to pay me my hard earned money. Yes. It's my money and I laboured for it. During the entire process I kept rewriting back and forth these are articles I virtually wrote each twice because of extreme and excessive nagging and to spend 10 days of my life, spend my resources, time and effort, Succyblinks must be added to the list of forum scammers.

Nairalanders call this thief to order

Here's his/her contact

08100331070

Mynd44 if I'm not paid, this phone number should be added to list of scammers. I can afford to lose the 8000 Naira, but we need to help other good Nairalanders know toxic people so they can avoid dealing with these psychologically sick human beings

You nor go get up?! Mama shouted as she roughly shook kate awake. She promptly got up completely disappointed that her plan had failed.

The poison didn’t kill her, if anything she felt even better than she did the previous day. Which kin life be dis? Kate puzzled as she drag her feet to the kitchen. The otapiapia she consumed had been very effective in killing different people, why did it not work for her.

She rushed through her morning chores, which included preparing breakfast for her parents, doing the dishes, fetching enough bath water for her and the two adults who slept comfortably in the living room from the next compound. When her parents got up to take their bath, she quickly swept the two-room apartment they lived in.

All this Kate did before preparing herself for school, its no surprise she is a perpetual latecomer at school. After running through house chores that are way too much for a single person, talk less of a 13-year old girl, kate has to brace herself for some strokes of cane, given as a punishment to latecomers.

God what did i do wrong? Did i offend you in my former life? Or is there no God?! Kate quizzed as she stared blankly at the chalkboard. To her math teacher, kate was maintaining concentration but the young child was way deep in her thoughts.

She finds joy in absolutely nothing and had known nothing but worries in her short lifespan. The double period allocated for mathematics ran by quickly, and a bell signaling the end of the 35 minutes long lecture period shook kate out of her thoughts.

Kate never took notes, she never reads them anyways, she instead tries to pay attention as the teacher explains the lesson, this was the learning method that got her through primary school and after graduating from primary school as the best graduating student of the year, she could say this method was foolproof.

Omo no be small call i make yesterday, me and joshua do midnight call for hours, Abigail whispered to Kate, nudging her slightly.

Ehn eh! No be small, kate responded. She was a bit envious of her friend, who had the freedom to not only have a boyfriend but can secretly talk with him on the phone at night without getting into trouble.

None of this was possible for kate, at least not when she has plans of keeping her head still attached to her neck. A slight shiver ran down her spine as she recollected the day her mother caught her having a steamy romance session with a boy in the dark behind their house.

Kate had been sent to fetch water from the next compound when she ran into her then bf. The guy was 6 years older than her but that didn’t matter to kate as she was head over heels for him since the very first day he asked her out. She had always had a thing for tall boys and Uche wasn’t just a tall boy, he was cute and lightskin.

It didn’t take her a long time to accept his proposal and being her first boyfriend, uche made sure kate felt his “love” every opportunity he gets. Every errand was promptly utilized and her budding breasts was lovingly handled each time. That was the only chance they got, as Kate is never allowed to leave the house alone for any reason apart from school and errands.

They were on their usual routine when mama K walked in on the two lovers having such a good time. If you have been following this story from the start, I believe you should be able to guess how that went.

All hell was let loose and mama k grabbed uche by the shirt, dishing out a couple of slaps on his cheeks before he was able to wrangle free and ran for his life. The woman then turned on her daughter and almost snuffed the life out of her.

The amount of beating kate received that day could have led to her death, if life was bent on preserving her for reasons kate just couldn’t figure out.

Her body was covered with bruises and whip marks and as if that wasn’t punishment enough. Mama k followed kate down to her school to inform her principal that she was caught romancing a boy and asked that she be publicly shamed during the morning assembly.
