embarassedDear Nairalanders, a friend of mine rented an apartment (2 bedroom flat) around August 2015 and oaid a one year rent,thereafter he s been paying 6months upon expiration .This August his house rent expires,and then his landlord brought a letter notifying him of an increment of #30,OOO...and not indicating effective from.
Question : Is he required by law to start paying the new amount now ,since his rental s exoiring this month or the old one ? I suggested the old one to him ;
Moreso,his argument was that the landlord is not supposed to give him an increment now and that rental imcrement can be reviewed every 3years ,and since he has only spent two years he doesn't think he would acknowledge if,according to Lagos Tenancy Law.
I have googled the said law and have not been able to come across anything relating to that. He claimed a property lawyer and a friend told him that few years ago but had lost contacts with him.
Property lawyers & consultants on NL or any experienced person should do justice to this questions,please .

Mods please take it to front page because people hardly come to this section ,and especially the time I am posting this.

Let him contact a lawyer. I am sure he has one on his street. However, he should apply wisdom while relating with his landlord on this matter notwithstanding what anybody may tell him here.

I appreciate you response. I will sure remind him of that...we need to understand the nitty gritty as it matters,incase the landlord starts misbehaving
