A 72-year-old grandmother has been left heartbroken after her younger husband was denied a visa.

Angela Nwachukwu, from Dorset, met Nigerian CJ, 27, on Facebook in February 2015.

The pair, who have a 45-year-old age gap, enjoyed a whirlwind romance and she flew over to Africa to marry him two months later.

After arriving home to England, Angela was left devasted when the application for her new husband’s visa was denied – twice.

The lovelorn pensioner has spent £20,000 visiting him in Nigeria and trying to get CJ, a computer engineer, over to England so they can live happily ever after.

Angela, a retired taxi driver who was single for six months before meeting CJ, said: ‘I saw that a young man had sent me a friend request on Facebook and I couldn’t believe my luck.

‘I did wonder why on earth he had added me, but I accepted and he sent me a message straight away telling me how lovely my profile photo was.’

CJ is six years younger than Angela’s eldest grandchild

‘We chatted for hours, about our families and each others’ hobbies – it was like we’d known each other for years.’

Initially, her sons thought their mum was being scammed, so hunted through CJ’s social media to look for clues.

They decided he looked like a genuine guy and the family was delighted when CJ proposed a month later, in March 2015, during a video call.

Angela added: ‘I was so taken a back when he asked me to marry him out of the blue. There was such an amazing chemistry between us, I knew he was my soulmate.’

Angela booked her flight to Nigeria and purchased a blue dress to wear for the ceremony, while CJ bought the wedding rings.

‘We’d planned to wait until the wedding night to consummate our relationship, but we couldn’t keep our hands off each other!’

CJ is not allowed to visit his wife on a tourist visa because authorities believe he wouldn’t leave the UK.

Since their marriage, Angela has visited her husband in Nigeria twice and hasn’t given up hope of being permanently united with him.

She says: ‘I was so determined to get him a visa I even hired lawyers to fight the decision.

‘It cost so much money, but it was just no use.’

The couple is hoping that CJ will be permitted entry into the UK on a student visa to complete a master’s degree in computing.
