Brilliant Quotes on Religion By Thomas Paine And Robert Ingersoll. by Mujtahida: 10:56am On Sep 03, 2017
**It is from the Bible that man has learned cruelty, rapine, and murder; for the belief of a cruel God makes a cruel man-Thomas Paine.

**If a man would follow today, the teachings of the Old Testament, he would be a criminal. If he would follow strictly the teachings of the New, he would be insane-Robert Green Ingersoll

**All the tales of miracles, with which the Old and New Testament are filled, are fit only for impostors to preach and fools to believe-Thomas Paine

**They say that when god was in Jerusalem he forgave his murderers, but now he will not forgive an honest man for differing with him on the subject of the Trinity. They say that God says to me, "Forgive your enemies." I say, "I do;" but he says, "I will damn mine." God should be consistent. If he wants me to forgive my enemies he should forgive his. I am asked to forgive enemies who can hurt me. God is only asked to forgive enemies who cannot hurt him. He certainly ought to be as generous as he asks us to be - Robert G. Ingersoll

**One good schoolmaster is of more use than a hundred priests-Thomas Paine

**And why does this same God tell me how to raise my children when he had to drown his?– Robert G. Ingersoll

forgiveness of God, but of each other and of ourselves– Robert G. Ingersoll

**I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church. **No one infers a god from the simple, from the known, from what is understood, but from the
complex, from the unknown, and incomprehensible. Our ignorance is God; what we know is

**When I became convinced that the universe is natural, that all the ghosts and gods are

**The Old Testament filled this world with tyranny and injustice, and the New gives us a future filled with pain for nearly all of the sons of men. The Old Testament describes the hell of the past, and the New the hell of the future-Robert Green Ingersoll

It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind; and, for my part, I sincerely detest it, as I detest everything that is cruel- Thomas Paine

** Our hope of immortality does not come from any religions, but nearly all religions come from that hope-Robert Green Ingersoll

**The most detestable wickedness, the most horrid cruelties, and the greatest miseries that have afflicted the human race have had their origin in this thing called revelation, or revealed religion. It has been the most destructive to the peace of man since man began to exist. Among the most detestable villains in history, you could not find one worse than Moses, who gave an order to butcher the boys, to massacre the mothers and then rape the daughters. One of the most horrible atrocities found in the literature of any nation. I would not dishonor my Creator's name by attaching it to this filthy book -Thomas Paine

The way to be happy is to make others so.
Wisdom is the science of happiness.

Unfortunately for the wise,

God has decided to use the foolish concept of

Redemption to save men.

" For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe."
(1 Corinthians 1: 21)

" For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."

but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Greek.

The Greek are smart.... hence the gospel is foolishness to them.
.
The Jews are religious.. Mosaic law is what they are used to...

hence, the gospel of Jesus Christ came as a stumbling block on their path.

You See?

all those quotes centred on Reason.

Unfortunately, Salvation is Faith, then Reason.

**Ignorance worships mystery; reason explains it; the one grovels, the other soars-Robert Green Ingersoll

**The declaration which says that God visits the sins of the fathers upon the children is contrary to every principle of moral justice- Thomas Paine

**Take from the church the miraculous, the supernatural, the incomprehensible, the unreasonable, the impossible, the unknowable, the absurd, and nothing but a vacuum remains.
Robert Green Ingersoll

**Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and tortuous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God.

**There are matters in the Bible, said to be done by the express commandment of God, that are shocking to humanity and to every idea we have of moral justice . . . Thomas Paine

**Ignorance is the soil in which belief in miracles grows– Robert G. Ingersoll

**It is far better that we admitted a thousand devils to roam at large than that we permitted one such impostor and monster as Moses, Joshua, Samuel, and the Bible prophets, to come with the pretended word of God and have credit among us- Thomas Paine

**And yet this same Deity says to me, resist not evil; pray for those that despitefully use you; love your enemies, but I will eternally damn mine. It seems to me that even gods should practice what they preach-Robert Green Ingersoll

**As to the book called the Bible, it is blasphemy to call it the Word of God. It is a book of lies and contradictions, and a history of bad times and bad men. There are but a few good characters in the whole book- Thomas Paine, Letter to William Duane

**I belong to the Great Church which holds the world within its starlit aisles; that claims the great and good of every race and clime; that finds with joy the grain of gold in every creed, and floods with light and love the germs of good in every soul- Robert Green Ingersoll

**The story of the redemption will not stand examination. That man should redeem himself from the sin of eating an apple by committing a murder on Jesus Christ, is the strangest system of religion ever set up- Thomas Paine

**Justice is the only worship.
Love is the only priest.
Ignorance is the only slavery.
Happiness is the only good.
The time to be happy is now,
The place to be happy is here,
The way to be happy is to make others so.
Wisdom is the science of happiness.
– Robert G. Ingersoll

**Of all the tyrannies that affect mankind, tyranny in religion is the worst; every other species of tyranny is limited to the world we live in, but this attempts to stride beyond the grave, and seeks to pursue us into eternity- Thomas Paine

**Religion is one of the phases of thought through which the world is passing-Robert G. Ingersoll

You just had to make your work of evil lengthy so that it would be arduous to attack.

So shall the evil which you have done be multiplied and increased in your life.

Mujtahida:
**It is from the Bible that man has learned cruelty, rapine, and murder; for the belief of a cruel God makes a cruel man-Thomas Paine.

Eve, Adam, Cain, lamech, kings of Israel and the world Never had the Bible to do evil.

Mujtahida:

**If a man would follow today, the teachings of the Old Testament, he would be a criminal. If he would follow strictly the teachings of the New, he would be insane-Robert Green Ingersoll

If a man would Obey The Commands of God, he shall be right full but he shall be hated by evil people.

Mujtahida:

**All the tales of miracles, with which the Old and New Testament are filled, are fit only for impostors to preach and fools to believe-Thomas Paine

The lives and experiences of others Instructs and guides the wise.

The foolish, become the very examples for the wise to avoid.

Mujtahida:

**They say that when god was in Jerusalem he forgave his murderers, but now he will not forgive an honest man for differing with him on the subject of the Trinity. They say that God says to me, "Forgive your enemies." I say, "I do;" but he says, "I will damn mine." God should be consistent. If he wants me to forgive my enemies he should forgive his. I am asked to forgive enemies who can hurt me. God is only asked to forgive enemies who cannot hurt him. He certainly ought to be as generous as he asks us to be - Robert G. Ingersoll

The prayer of the evil man is always that he shall escape the evil which he has done, that evil should never befall on him.

True, his name proves it. No wonder! I should have looked upon his I'd and I would not have bothered responding.
