The book of 2 corinthians 5:17 says,

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." KJV

I do not doubt the words of the bible but this particular verse needs a thorough explanation to me and a lot of Christians. This is because people's lives in the past have somehow always come to haunt them years after they've moved on to a changed life. Some people's future and present lives have been totally ruined by actions they took in the past out of ignorance, naivety or misleading.

There are a lot of examples I could give but the most recent was what we all read here where someone threatened to reveal the sexcapades of the wife of a popular comedian when she was was in the university.

The comedian I know quite well is someone who tries to revere God in his own little way, yet he is been tormented with the revealed thought that sometime in the past, his wife was in a messy relationship.

I know a young man who committed a crime when he was much younger. As years passed by, he changed to become a totally different person but people never ceased to make reference to his past. He has moved on yeah, but a lot if times, he regrets what he did and always falls into bouts of despair.

My question is, Can't the past just fade into oblivion?

Can't it be totally erased that you don't have to be worried about it? Or should I say, you don't have to be worried about any repercussions because they won't come?

The case of the popular comedian Bill Cosby comes to mind.

How exactly do old things pass away?

Lalasticlala please I really need answers to this.

Thanks!

I believe you greatly misconstrue what Paul said in that verse you quoted there, as do many religions do to this day. undecided

Anyways, for those who are in Jesus Christ, all the old rituals and traditions(including commandments) of the Old Law are passed away. No longer will God hold you to account on whether you obey those commandments, and partake in those many celebrations, the rituals and sacrifices mandated in the Old Law of Moses. Instead, all things have become new as God holds you only to obedience to the New Standard that is Jesus Christ. This Paul said particularly for those who lived in the land of Canaan and were not certain if they needed to continue to engage in what was described in the Law as a result of living in the land at the time which was the last days of God's Judgement against the Nation of Isreal(and Judah) in the Land of Canaan by His standard that is the Law of Moses. At that time, God had chosen to lay His curse on everyone in the Land — Deuteronomy 28 vs 15 - 57 and Leviticus 26 — just as He promised He would through the Prophets. undecided
