Goodluck Jonathan is carrying himself with dignity. I think he has an element of humility as a person and which is a rare trait in Nigerian politicians.

, he has both humility and patience, and I'm sure he's vibrating from some real deep realm most folks can't dig. Watch out.

spoken like a true SE'ner.- no offense but in politics you dont voice your TRUE opinion boisterously. You keep calm analyze the situation and then act.  A politician can never show his true feelings.

we thank God he is taking advice from OBJ to play it cool, keep a low profile and act docile. If he was from the SE-Nigeria would have been in a civil war by now and he would already been dead.

@ post "Honest politician is an oxymoron."
Theres no such thing as an honest politician. Jonathan may not like keeping a low profile but he has too. Imagine if he is to say" they dont want me to be presido because im Ijaw and from the delta or his action showed as much" wtf CIVIL WAR! immediate bombing by MEND, ijaw n all NDeltans, and Nigerian soldiers to go to the ND and start 1966 or june 1993 all over again.

He's careful not make it an ijaw issue like the igbos made it an igbo issue(biafra) and the yorubas made it their own a yoruba issue(anulling the mko election -the lock up and deaths of afeninfere leaders and abiola).

He doesnt want to die like Abiola and he doesnt want to another civil war like Biafra. He should carry on. great job

i think you need to clear your head of tribalism

If the Wole Soyinkas who are Yorubas and the Doras who are Igbos all kept a low profile a dead man would have been running Nigeria through his wife.

We are even having this debate because Omoyele Sowore a Yoruba man dared to report dangerous news about Nigeria and not choose to keep a low profile for the survival of his business. If Jonathan does not want to be President he should stand.

When the number 1 citizen of a country is talking about keeping a low profile, you will wonder who will run the country
Keeping a low profile means simply ceding leadership to someone else. The question is who does he want to cede it to?
Re: Jonathan, Keeping A Low Profile Is A Brilliant Idea by Nobody: 4:48pm On Feb 27, 2010
after 3yrs of Yar'adua you will think nigerians will want something different

Yar'adua promised us humility and all we got was a reclusive despot who hid behind surrogates to perpetrate all sorts of greed and evil.
I don't know about you but I am tired of having leaders who dont want to be leaders.

That simply tells you the individual is confused and in the wrong job.

So Jonathan should MAN UP or resign. I am sure David Mark will relish the opportunity.
Re: Jonathan, Keeping A Low Profile Is A Brilliant Idea by babapupa: 5:04pm On Feb 27, 2010
We don't need a low profile leader in times of crisis, we need an assertive and take charge leader to lead and reassure the citizenry that things are ok at the top.

A low profile leader creates an atmosphere of vacuum and uncertainty and ultimately prolong the crisis.

We need a visible and take charge leader, not a low profile leader. What is he low profiling for? Jonathan looks like a cool guy but let him step aside if he's not ready for prime time.

Please Soyinka and Dora arent the president or acting president of a country if there were - Soyinka would have been dead by now- SE will cause civil war if Dora doesnt become president in enough time. lets be honest I dont mean to make it tribe thing.

But if jonathan was from the SE he and those from his region wouldnt have been patient enough to get this far.
Soyinka dora and all those people who asked for power to be handed over did so because they are not in jonathans shoes.

If Soyinka was in jonathans shoes and openly asked for power to be handed to him- it would be seen as an act of disloyalty and a secret agenda -he Definately wont get anything.
Theres a reason why soyinka is an activist and can NEVER be presido. Dora did what she could for her position but she would NEVER have thought about saying it if she were jonathan.

He should be calm and lay low and be confident that US and UK are behind him. Hes been asserting himself well so far without stepping on any feet. Hes active in the Niger coup situation, assuring investors to stay in naija, what else does everyone want him to do that wont get him killed?

Nigerians like Sjeezy have gotten used to their leaders playing politics with every little situation that could be tackled right away. These dubious ways of politicking keep causing so much problems in our country than it should avoid, yet Sjeezy and co are hoping that giant strides will be made by the acting president answering to Turai in order to save his head.

On a personal level, I think GEJ is a good man but a big time weakling, first class coward and an opportunist to be a Nigerian president. I think he should tender his resignation immediately!

Just my tots.

Jonathan is doing just fine for now. Playing it by the ear. People are already saying he has no balls, why? He is just two and half weeks into the job and the cabal has already pulled a joker on him by bringing in(?) his boss to destabilize him. I think he needs a lot of prayers and support from all. He is not ambitious so was not expecting the president to be so ill that he would have to act or even take over. He just wanted to be the vice so all the present developments are new to him and he is just adjusting to them. people should not push him to over-reach himself and act out of character. They are those that will accuse him tomorrow of being over-ambitious and power drunk. He has to be close to God for directions, wisdom and a blueprint for Nigeria. With that he will take actions that will not be faulted. He was commended in the different handling of Aondakaa and Lukman but probably missed it in the niger dredging issue. The blueprint will pleasantly surprise all and set nigeria on the part to greatness. People talking about US and UK coming to help Nigeria against the cabal sound childish. We must ensure that Nigeria succeeds by ourselves. No other Nation will do that for us. They all have their own national and international challenges. Their assistance can only be moral. Abacha ruled for how long? We must take our destiny in our hands. More folks like Akunyili, Soyinka, David Mark, etc are needed.

Taking  Nigeria's democracy to the edge of ruination is not "keeping a low profile". My fellow Nigerians will never fail to amaze me with their 'unique thinking'. We had all the signs we needed that Yar Adua was going to be a poor leader.  In a clear and typically Nigerian display of self deciet and lack of national ambition sensible folks , like they are doing for Jonathan now, began making excuses for Yar Adua's leadership deficiencies that portended danger for our nation. Some of us rightly called him a clueless leader who will take us backward yet other Nigerians argued that he is  taking an "analytical approach" . They chastised us for urging "gra -gra" . So where is Nigeria today with Yar Adua's analytical approach?

Jonathan has messed up unacceptably several times in the past few months since this saga began and folks like Donald Duke have chronicled his many mess ups that encouraged dangerous dissent which threatened to derail our democracy. You guys should recognise Jonathan's poor leadership skills for what it is rather than continue to make excuses for it. You will all be dissapointed in the end. I am already looking beyond Jonathan . His poor leadrship since this mess began is proof that he is another clueless imposition leader who wants to come and learn about leadership 'on the job' to the usual detriment of Nigeria .

Bravery is not same as playing to the gallery. One of the first challenges of a real man is the ability to conquer himself. Yes conquer yourself when provoked  but you have to choose between temporay insult but an accomplished end OR  Fighting the commando style for "pride" ,get some public applause but miss the goal. . .

I got this quote from another article about the Nigerian saga (https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=405382.msg5600183#msg5600183).
It is a statement born of profound wisdom. We need to stand back and give ear to such, even when the blood is boiling.

In the face of everything (including an attempted coup), Jonathan, just keeps bobbing right back up. He just keeps winning every bout. Why? He must be confounding quite a few people, especially those used to agbero style politics. But here is a man who knows his own measure and uses his head to brilliant effect; it is a game of chess between an extremly powerful and entrenched cabal and a lonely PHD. Guess who's won every round?

Lets leave agbero behaviour and reccommendations behind, we will never develop without displaying civilisation (both in thought and process).

Know when to conquer yourself. . .

you mistake ineptitude and docility for tactical intelligence.

I believe in the results I see, not any distant beer palour arguments. Jonathan has produced incredible results so far and stands tall nationally and internationally. It is time for Nigerians to learn to engage their brains rather than agbero tactics. What did those who attempted a coup last week acheive?

If "ineptitude and docility" is defeating the cabal that has held Nigeria to ransome for decades, then please, lets have more of it.

he seems trapped in docility and ineptitude.

how did david mark enter this discussion?
Jonathan should conquer himself and step up to the plate.
This time fate will not act on his behalf (Yar Adua will not be declared ead any time soon, if that is what he is hoping for).

I have to agree with you on this because Jonathan's patience is apying the expected dividends.
Yar'Adua was forced into Nigeria with the hope of relegating GEJ to VP But it seems they fell short of doing that.Nigerians are now clamouring for SMY to appear on national TV.He cant because he is still in the air-ambulance at the airport.
Jonathan is doing the right thing by waiting aside while the evil-doers go at each other.
The whole saga will play itself out when SMY is certified unfit to rule by both American,Nigerian,German and Saudi Arabian doctors. It'll give Jonathan the needed time and strength to go for the kill.

Watch OUT

I think a wake up call for him shall be a military take over. The day military discover his act of keeping a low profile as cowardice, the day they will take over power from him. More so let him not forget that north shall never give up, if they fail through Yaradua they would find any other means to get the power back, even if it is by coup. If that happens Nigerians and the ND  will never forgive him for letting the power slip away to the north.
For me the earlier he wake up the better for all of us.
