I intend to start my farm around Ogun state with about 5 to 10 acres of land. But I have this small piece of land about 2 plot that I want to do a trial on cucumber.
The land has been cleared and the ridges are being currently made. I have purchased four cans 50grams of market more seeds
I hope to post pictures of the farm and proceeding in the coming days.

This is a trial, I have read and learnt so many things both correct and wrong ones. I intent to test out a number of things on the 2 plots of land. I am going to make mistakes and learn from them.
I used market more seeds. They are not hybrid but I learnt they are good. There are a number of contacts for cucumber seeds on this nairaland agric section.

Do you come to pick them from the farm or the farmer bring them to you ? What quantity can you accommodate within a period ?

I planted 2 varieties of non hybrid cucumbers. Market more on 3/4 of the land and Technicem Marketer is on 1/4 if the land.

This is day 3 of the Market more and day 2 of the marketer.

I have set up a control experiment at home in three cans to check on the germination.

Can 1 - Market more
Can 2 - market more after dipping in warm water over night
Can 3 - marketer

After 3 days:
can 1 - Market more started sprouting after 3 days
Can 2 - Market more (warm water) started sprouting after 2 days
Can 3 - Marketer came out after a night

sandy loam is not too good for cucumber, because of poor drainage, i advice you grow them and nurse for two weeks, before transplanting, also re-till your soil and add sharp sand, and other organic matter that are rich. Poor drianage leads to water logging.

How do u intend to irrigate? Remember large percentage of cucumber body is made up of water otherwise​ its growth will be stunted and the fruit will be bitter

The soil is loamy clay and it is also rich. I believe it will do well for cucumber. But this is a trial , so if it does not do well then I learn that good lesson. Thanks

This farm is actually on a building site, we have a bore hole and a large water tank. But we are also hoping that the remaining part of September and the month of October still have some good rain water to pour down.

Market more is not a good variety for commercial farming from experience. Look for Murano, Tokyo, greengo,or monalisa variety

Getting the seed is not a problem as there are many sellers. My problem is getting a land. If there's any for leasing please let me know, thanks. I live in Uyo as well.

Over 70% of the seeds have sprouted. The excess will be thinned. The guys who helped me in the planted just wasted the seeds. Instead of puting 2 per hole, they just poured it in (sabotage).

The farm is doing well .

with this picture, my dear the farm is not doing well, can't u see the farm is filled with weed. weed control is very important in cucumber farm, weeds are like bedbug, the feed on the nutrient u r giving your plant.
Pls try mulch with plastic film when next you want to plant. It helps in weed control.

Well, this is a trial, the purpose is to learn first hand what works and what does not, the land is a loamy clay and retains a lot of water, the cucumbers seems to be enjoying it.

Weeding will be done from day 20 upwards.
