Ososo town is located in Akoko Edo local government area of Edo state.
Ososo has its own customs and tradition just like every other town in Nigeria One of the Ososo most valued tradition is Obikho (Womanhood Tradition).

The obikho festival is very important and significant in ososo kingdom. Obikho which is simply referred to as initiation of girls to womanhood and usually carried out yearly on girls attaining maturity, whereby the girl in question is kept in the house for seven days without getting involved in carrying out domestic house work.

This period is also referred to as the holly period .The young girls prove their virginity by walking naked in the town and even market places, whereby this maiden will get their suitors, however this depends solely on individual choices.

On the last day of this sanctification (holly period) the maiden popularly called obikho is escorted in naked to a designated place where the final traditional rites takes place and this marks the end of the obikho as it is done once in life time and it is compulsory for every female child of the town.

If you were from Ososo, you must know that your people are not people who comment on posts nor reply to comment nor read even any post. Your people are lovers of photo!

Do not yank this off yet, I have been with them enough to know this. Only few, very few of them can read, assimilate and reply. They said it's uncultured to speak when any one spoke, and this is the banw of our disseption, and enslavement to the words of any speaker! To most Ososo, they listen but to write is the impossible thing!

Such exploitative cultures need to be done away with! undecided

How exactly does a gal prove her virginity by walking butt naked around town? Isn't this sheer wickedness pressuring teenagers with such claims? Nonsense.. undecided

This shows how bereft and shallow you can be.

How can you say such of a people ? Or is this a reverse physiological way of you wanting to provoke them to speak?

Need I remind you that the former MD of the almighty NLNG, Mr Attah is from Osland...

Need I remind you that the handsome ADC to President Obasanjo during his tenure as C-in-C, Col. Jemitola is from Osland...

We have so many Ososo professionals all over the world. In my family alone, we have 2 Ph.D holders , Engineers , Bankers etc and we are all from Osland living our lives quietly and modestly.

Wise Oslanders don't make noise.

And yes, I also abhor that Obhiko culture, even though most tribes in Nigeria have an equivalent. I hope and pray it is completely modernized.

In the case of my elder sister which I witnessed in way back 1983, she stayed indoors in a room given to her and only females were allowed into her room to attend to her. She didn't parade the street like you are trying to insinuate or portray .

The Ososo carnival in December is a spectacle to behold . Ososo is a tourist town and the combination of the carnival, weather and it's beautiful people is something you should witness in your lifetime.

And, sorry to burst your bubbles, you won't see any naked virgins walking on the streets on that day.

But you would see beautiful rocks, meadows , you would see nature at it's best .

And, you would see beautiful boys and girls, men and women of timber and caliber and not forgetting our delicious pounded yam and egusi soup amongst many other attractions.

So, stop this your phantasmagorical ranting and belittling of a great people.

How dare you say such rubbish? Like, how? I'll refrain from saying what's on my mind cause unlike you, we Ososos are cultured folks who don't go about bandying words

It is not in a bid to prove her virginity or any such nonsense. Every society has its own unique culture and I don't think I need tell you that culture is identity. The fact that imperialism might have caused you to look at your own age long tradition as barbarism doesn't mean everyone should do away with theirs. I'm a proud Ososo man and the Obikho tradition is part of our cultural heritage bequeathed to us by our forebears. And before you call us barbaric, I'll put it to you that at least 30 percent of Ososo indigenes have a bachelor's degree or A diploma

This rubbish still irks me. Please tell me where you are from and let's compare with Ososo. Like, did you really sit down, and think this through before posting or your brain was probably disconnected from your fingers while typing?

1. Culture is identity my arse! undecided

2. Culture is fluid rather than static and for good reasons as people realize that over time what might seem reasonable to society today may turn out foolish after all. And for this reason, when new ideas came in, people saw fit to abandon some of the meaningless old ways in order to adopt new ones. undecided

3. Forcing a woman to walk butt naked around town is not only barbaric but indicative of the mindset of those who create and adhere to such cultures. undecided

P.S. Nigerians are considered some of the most educated folks in the world yet they are still ruled by old majorly corrupt half-wits, so go figure. undecided

How can you bandy words when you cannot think out of the box?
How can we bring ourselves as brethrens out from ignorance into new knowledge when our hearts have driven us from reading the works that might have set us free.

Brother, come out of it, and come straight to Ososo and see facts.
