With regards Qt Basics:

You'll need some solid C++ knowledge,for starters.
Objects and classes. Polymorphism and Virtual Methods. C++ templates and some of the STL.
Not much need for RTTI or exceptions,as those aren't required in Qt.
But all this shouldn't be a problem for you anyways - being a pc guru 'n' all.
After the whole C++ brush up. I recommend two books, though there's quite a horde of others out there.
- Apress, Foundations of Qt Development. By Johan Thelin.
- C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4, Second Edition.

There are alot of resources out there. But these two books,in particular, should get you up to speed to Qt 4.5.

Combined with practice of the over 50 demo examples that come pre-installed in the Qt SDK, should get you past the basics.

There're also resources at the Nokia Qt site. (http://qt.nokia.com ). And of course,if you run into any problems, there's the Qt forum at Forum Nokia. And also the KDE Forum (since Qt's used alot there too).

Happy coding.
