For Kwarans, it is another dividend of democracy as the first ever fly-over is about to be completed in the state capital, Ilorin. The project which was put in place by the present administration of Dr. Bukola Saraki has cost the government a whooping sum of N2.8Billion. The Fly-Over which is located around the heart of Ilorin city at Post-Office is meant to reduce traffic congestion that has been characterizing the free flow of vehicles for both commercial and car owners across the length and breadth of the state in recent times.

Prior to the construction of the project that is due for commissioning anytime for now, the people of the state have not been finding it easy moving around this location as there’s always gridlock and this has led to the breakdown of many vehicles on the road .

The project that started last year was awarded to one of the reputable construction companies in the country and the company has been putting finishing touches to the project and by the time this is completed, it would add to the beautification of the state capital and also enhancing the socio economic development of the state.

Upon assumption of office in 2003, Saraki reiterated the commitment of the government to improve the infrastructure that would witness the test of time because this would serve a lasting legacy that would be proud of after the end of the administration. It would be noted that, construction of this kind of edifice is not the only infrastructure put in place by the administration as many others like construction of roads , construction of metropolitan centre located along Ajase-Ipo- Asa Dam road, diagnostic medical centre, Ilorin International Market located at Adewole Estate area, Ilorin, construction of State University at Malete, National Independent Power Project at Gamo, construction of ultra modern courtrooms and judges quarters, official quarters for royal fathers among others.

However, the construction of the fly-over currently going on in the state is a testimony of the administration’s commitment to make life bearable for the people of the state. This is because, the era of broken down vehicles along the major streets of the state capital would be a thing of the past and this would go along way of bringing new lease of life to the residents.

In a chat with THISDAY on the project, the state House of Assembly speaker, Hon. Babatunde Muhammed said that the present administration’s initiative to develop the infrastructure of the state needed to be commended in order to bring quality of life to the residents.

Muhammed who led other members of the state House of Assembly to inspect the fly-over project in the state as part of their oversight functions said that there was no doubt that the administration has fulfilled their electioneering campaigns to the people of the state.

He said that the people of the state would now have the relief of free flow of movement of their vehicles when the project is finally commissioned in due course. The speaker, who lauded the contractor handling the project for ensuring the standard in the construction of the project, said that the fly-over would also boost the economic growth of the state because some people would be making use of the environment to trade in one kind of business or the other.

Also speaking on the project , the state commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Kola Shittu said that the intention of the present administration to improve the socio-economic well being of the populace calls for the construction of Ffly-over in the state capital.

He said that, apart from the fact that, it would reduce the traffic congestion, it would also boost the economic growth of the state as the people would be able to get to the places they are going either for business or other related issues that bothers on the lives of the society.

Shittu added that, the government has committed a lot of money to the fly-over and it would soon be completed in due course so as to provide quick movement of vehicles within the metropolis.

He stressed that, the contractor has been working round the clock in order to hasten the delivery of the project to the government. On the ongoing roads development in the state, the commissioner said that, no fewer than 43 roads project are now going on in the state as part of moves to open up towns and villages in the three senatorial districts of the state.

He said that, in the month of January, this year, about 13 roads are completed in order to bring much expected socio-economic growth to the doorsteps of the populace. Those roads completed and asphalt are Ero-Omo- Kilanko -Offa Garage, Ita-Amo- Eiyenkorin Junction, Adesoye Alaya-Offa , Eiyenkorin—Bala- Alapa,Ofa-Ojoku, among others.

Shittu added that fourteen roads would be completed during this month of February in order to ensure that , there is movement during the incoming rain season. The roads in this category are, Ossi-Etan-Ekiti , Eruku-Al-Jaji Kasiri, Oloje housing project road, among others.
