Why US And EU Will Never Recognize IPOB As A Terrorist Organization -Ilonze, London Based Security Expert


A coalition of hurriedly assembled civil society group in the payroll of the federal government yesterday went to the American Embassy in Abuja to protest over the non recognition of the indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a terrorist organization

The group which goes under the name of Stand Up for Peace Movement demonstrated in words and actions that they were recruited by government said they found it absurd that the government of the United States would disagree with the decision of the federal government of Nigeria to label IPOB a terrorist organization.

However a United Kingdom based security expert, Hyman Ilonze has given reasons why the United States and the European Union would never recognize the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra(IPOB),

Ilonze who is the president of Euroguard Securities UK , said that the activities of IPOB has not been in any way linked to the features of a terrorist organization.

According to him because of this,, declaring IPOB a terrorist group is the most disingenuous way of giving a dog a bad name with the intention of hanging it.

He said there are about 10 features of a terrorist organization, adding that before a group is designated a terrorist organization, it must manifest some, if not most of the features. His words, Nigerian federal government cannot stampede the United States or the European Union to recognized IPOB as a terrorist organization because from the security point of view it is not. The features of a terrorist organization are as follows, it must commit offences against the human person which can cause death or serious injury. It must engage in massive destruction on a large scale of public property, public infrastructure, transportation system, fixed continental platforms, private property, thus risking lives of people. It must engage in hijacking of aircrafts, ships or other means of transportation.

The group must engage in producing g ,storing ,buying ,transporting or trading in explosives, fire arms, biological, chemical and nuclear weapon, and in research in the production of the above mass destruction weapons.

The other features of a terrorist organization are it must engage in distributing environmentally hazardous substances which cause fire, floods, explosions, all with the intent to endanger the lives of persons, or cause serious financial damage, it must be causing seizure of water, electricity or other relevant sources of energy, it must be operating from camps, forests, caves and other secluded areas. it must engage in kidnapping, maiming, raping, bombing and destroying public properties, among other heinous crimes. It must be usually not amenable to peaceful negotiations. Lastly it must be intimidating and over a wing government and the e tire nation.".

According to him, IPOB has not been linked in any way or manner with any of the features above.

IPOB is a known group of protesters who are involved in peaceful agitation for self determination and calling for referendum.

He said with the above self evident truth, there is no way the United States or the European Union can designate such an organization a terrorist organization no matter how hard Nigerian government tries to blackmail them to do so.

I had wished IPOB had engaged in "producing guns ,storing ,buying ,transporting or trading in explosives, fire arms, biological, chemical and nuclear weapon, and in research in the production of the above mass destruction weapons". With these capabilities in stock. I would not mind if IPOB is declared terrorist organization as long as Republic of Igbo land or Biafra is actualized. I am a staunch believer that the end justifies the means.
