Eldee,

I believe one can mark their territory without Beef records. Fela did without having "beef" with fellow musicians.

I am not sure if it was you who stated that Beef is just competition. Personally, I partially agree in the sense that it is a small and very minor form of competition, but it appears Artist may be going in this direction and forgetting about making music.

Yeah you can . . . but as a realist, the easiest way to get to the top is to get others out of your way.
It's not fair . . . but that's what the world has turned to.

Even in businesses . . . it's the EPL TV battle season this may, you'll soon start seeing them trying to strangle each other.

@audio
The Deathblow was Hail Mary . . . that was the song that killed Ja not Wanksta and stuff like that.

Besides, the main thing is, beef killed his career not anything else.

Well yes and no. Another rapper dissing you, is like the gauntlet being thrown down for a duel. You can either win, lose or it will be considered a draw. In Ja Rule's case 50 + label mates, dissed Ja Rule. It was his inability to come back with a convincing reply (ie Rugged Man) that was his undoing. Plus, headz were already tired of him and his cookie monster flow. Speaking for myself, i was glad when he was gone.

Kudos to all that have contributed to this thread. It's very possible to sell records and I mean massive units without diss/beef songs with examples in Nigeria. A good example is Tuface. If my memory serves me right I, don't think Tuface as a solo artiste has ever release any diss track and yet we all know Tuface is a superstar in Nigeria. That does not mean he is holy pass those doing it because the competition he faced was not as stiff as what other artiste in other genre of music especially HipHop.

Recording diss track is not an excuse to fail in your quest to make good music. Artiste like Tupac are remembered today for their concious songs more than their diss tracks. WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE SAID OR BEING SAYING ABOUT TUPAC NOW IF HE HAS NOT RELEASE A TRACK LIKE HIT'EM UP? He needed to address that issue and he did without derailing from his primary aim (revolution) in the music business. Some people even believe Pac won the infamous lyrical war because Biggie stopped when he was supposed to push on. It's not all about money but, also the credibility involved.

Ja Rule is not dead but, he has a dead career courtesy Eminem/50 Cent. The Game is still hanging on just because of his ability to bless mixtapes with either diss or reply tracks.

@El Razor Sunny Ade has a lot of diss tacks. Who do you think is called Omo ode
E kilo f'omo ode k'o marin nipado

What I'm trying to say is that diss tracks are necessary as quarrel/fight is part of our lives and music should be addressing all issues that concern life and living. As weird as it may seem, sometimes I feel like listening to diss songs for a whole day

It is possible . . . yeah.
But it's harder in hiphop . . . off the top of your head, can you name five successful rappers that have never been involved in beef??

I agree with you, but just had to point out that Tuface kinda had a major thing with Faze.
He so totally milked the controversy in Plantashun Boyz in many verses in his songs.
See Me So was a complete beef track.

I don't know what you wanna call it . . . but without Hail Mary, Ja Rule would still be dropping major hits today.
Eminem killed Ja Rule, it's that simple.

The market is big enough for creativity and the need to result to disses to sell record is a weakness in my opinion. The need to refer to your enemy and haters is just pure drivel. Sucks to be honest.

i agree and disagree with ur post. the market place is big enough BUT sometimes, especially in hip hop a diss record is very much needed. Although in Nigeria it seems that everybody is jumping on the dissing bandwagon. It does suck when its done for no apparent reason or strictly for attention.

I hope Mode9 doesn't diss RM again on the new album cos that would be lame. RM has already waved the white flag after Deathblow so another track is pointless. It could even have a negative effect on his album.

ofokaofoki:

its just a natural phenomenon, to be honest wit u ,i would have preferred ruggedman to put all that into a diss song, this guy has the power to diss and reply modenine that hiphop way , i am a bit dissapointed he is emplying those chidlish gimmicks. if u know how many people see that status update on facebook and the impresiion that creates , but he doesnt care, he thinks he has enemy, modenine is not an enemy,
modenine is just doing hiphop the matured way .  which is why i respect him till tomorrow. even tho i prefer certain rappers to him . ( u know which one ), simple.

this is some serious talk and shouldnt be taken as a joke. the beef is gettin out of hand , i expected the thing to end at death low 2 and rugged replying him ina  song not saying pauper this pauper that ,
what has money got to do with good music ?   and lastly like dbr said fans will always remains fans .

RM should have replied Mode9 but has refused to do so. . . . . . .suddenly the 'speak ur mind' and ' i go name names and flog with cane' rapper has lost his tongue. i find it hard to listen to his first album without  thinking. . .  .'what happened to the RM of 2002/2003?. Its a shame but that's his cross to bear.

Sikiru Ayinde vs Kollington Ayinla(Jeeez Kollington even made a song to insinuate he slept with a certain lady singer first before Barrister did.(2pac can be said to have beaten the Faith Evans line from Kollington) tongue

Good Topic Razur,

I agree with you. If you leave a non positive comment, your a hater/enemy.

Ibi ise eni ni ati mo ni l'ole. By what you profess shall you be judged.

How so is then that one calls himself a battle rapper and when he's got grudges cant use the platform with which he preaches to speak up?

Chris waddle called Walcott brainless as a journo in papers, Walcott went to the field (his own turf) and played his heart out, others took it from their and helped him signal a fU.c.K you to Waddle. Beef created, response given.

Now a person says he does battle rap and then has issues with someone else, its logical he addresses the issue on wax.
