The University of Ilorin has announced that the
University would, at its 33rd Convocation
Ceremonies, graduate a total of 9,018 students 89 of whom
come out with First Class honours, the highest number of
graduands in the coveted category so far in the history of
the institution.

The immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof.
AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), disclosed this last Friday
(October 13, 2017) at the Vice-Chancellor's Press Briefing,
as part of activities heralding the 33rd Convocation
Ceremonies of the University of Ilorin.

Prof. Ambali stated that of the 9,018 graduating students,
1,932 students will obtain a Second Class Upper Division,
3,727 Second Class Lower, 1309 Third Class, 117 Pass, and
two aegrotat graduating students. He also said of the
postgraduate category, 161 would be conferred with
Postgraduate Diplomas, 1074 Academic Masters; 130
Professional Masters Degrees and 120 PhDs in various
disciplines for the 2016/2017 academic session.

According to the ex-Vice-Chancellor, who completed his
single-term tenure of five years on October 15, 2017,
expressed gratitude to God for sustaining the University,
noting that the Institution had “thrived with the quality and
quantity of the research embarked on by the lecturers.”

He pointed out that the University has remained the most
subscribed University in the country, adding that students of
the University were “excelling due to hard work on their part,
the commitment of lecturers to teaching and research and
the conducive environment provided by the University.”

He further noted that 13 projects, which will be
commissioned during the Convocation ceremonies, include
the College of Health Sciences (COHS) Office Block Type A;
College of Health Sciences (COHS) Office Block Type B;
College of Health Sciences (COHS) Library Block; College of
Health Sciences (COHS) 300 Capacity Lecture Hall A;
College of Health Sciences (COHS) 300 Capacity Lecture
Hall B; College of Health Sciences (COHS) 128 Bed spaces
Hostel Type B; Office Block for Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine; Upgrade of 11KV Distribution Panels at Central
Power Station; Upgrade of 11KV Distribution Panels at Staff
Quarters; Abuja Liaison Office; Rubols Hostel; Al-Mutawakil
Hostel and Arafim Hostel.

Highlights of the Press briefing which signaled the
commencement of the University's 33rd Convocation
ceremonies was the launching of a book entitled “The
Ambali Years, (A Chronicle of the landmark achievement of
Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali-2012-2017)” written by the Deputy
Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun and reviewed
by veteran journalist and Chairman of ThisDay Editorial
Board, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi.
