• 1. Attend an export seminar or 1-on-1 Export training. If you are so busy to attend, you can order for my export ebook package.

• 2. Make up your mind on commodities to export.

• 3. Take pictures of product samples.

• 4. Do market research on products.

• 5. Confirm local suppliers.

• 6. Start contacting overseas buyers.

• 7. Get a serious enquiry.

• 8. Negotiate price.

• 9. Confirm price.

• 10.Send commodity sample where necessary. If the client accepts the sample, you can then, commence your small scale export. As soon as your goods arrive the buyer‟s country, you will get paid especially If you are using the ESCROW method of payment.
But if you are doing large scale export, you will have continue the export process as follows:

• 11.Contact shipping agent/freight forwarders. You get them through Nigeria Shippers Council or contact the author for advice on freight forwarder.

• 12.Contact your bank. Visit your bank with a photocopy of your export order/sales order with the importer‟‟s contact name and contact details hidden. Do not reveal the original copy until you are ready to sign a contract or deal with your bank either in the area of financing or contracting them to receive payment on your behalf. Please, ensure you get a lawyer to study their contract clause before signing any bank
document. This is to protect you from unnecessary losses. Inform your bank to put all their cards on the table – NO HIDDEN CHARGES.

• 13.Importer is ready to open an LC and gives you his bank details.

• 14.Request your bank to ask for confirmed irrevocable LC and forward the details of the importer‟s bank to your bank.

• 15.Importer‟s bank opens a confirmed irrevocable LC which is endorsed by another bank in the importers‟ country. The confirmed irrevocable letter of credit is the best and most reliable form of payment which protects your interest and that of the buyer. Always opt for this.

• 16.Conclude shipping arrangements. You do this by ensuring all your documentations are in place. The freight forwarder can assist you in documentation and any form of final inspection. But, as you know everything comes with a price. And, everything is negotiable.

• 17.Commence export.

• 18.Commodities arrive at importers‟ country.

• 19.Importer requests for shipping document. Without the shipping document, he cannot clear his goods. It is important to him or her.

• 20.Exporter requests for payment against release of shipping document. Inform the importer to release payment which is the condition on which you will release the document.

• 21.Give your bank a collection order to collect your money from the importer‟s bank on your behalf. This a written letter, authorizing your bank to collect your money from the importer on your behalf. Be specific about the details of the transaction.

• 22.Your bank collects your money on your behalf.

• 23.You send the shipping documents to the importer
.
• 24.Enjoy some of the money.

• 25.Start all over again.
