Planning to buy cann 7d or 5d for video. no need to spend all that money. canon has just release digital rebel t2i (550d). i cost only 800 pounds sterling plus lens and produces the same image quality as 7d. it also has a mic input.

it is 18 mega pixels so its fantastic for still photos too. I'll get mine soon.

I doubt it has the same video quality as say the HV40 though.

good pointer for amateurs and semi pros who were in the market for these, but if u'r a professional, i suggest you spend the extra money for a 7d. the 5d mark2; not really worth it. while the T2i has equivalent image quality as the 7d, it has less manual controls which is key to pros. However, if it is going to be primarily a still shot camera, then by all means; get the T2i.

while the hv40 is the best camcorder in its class, the above cameras are way superior in video quality. matter of fact; recent episodes of "24" and "saturday night live" have been filmed on the 5D and 7D.

@seun, i hvae a canon hf10 and its just like the hv40. its mainly for consumer use. it does not match the dslr dslr range. besides to use an external lens you need and adapter, and the dont usually work well.

How much is the canon 7d and where can one get it?

The Rebel T2i or as it is known in europe the 550D is an awesome DSLR camera for the price, While it has the cons of less manual controls,am sure one can work his way around it , It's now $700, HALF the price of either the 5D Mark II or the 7D,
Am not really a DSLR-for-video fan (still love my dedicated video cameras) but at this prices i might be getting one for myself soon,
