In competitive football games, where player have to contend with massive amounts of adrenaline, monster crowds, controversial referees and antagonizing oppositions, one will wonder how any player could go through their entire career without receiving a single red card. However, it is not all footballers that lose their tempers when the going gets tough. It is surprising to see the soccer stars listed in this story not getting a red card in their entire careers despite playing a combined 6,600 games.

Gary Lineker
The former Leicester, Everton, Tottenham and Barcelona man played 567 matches throughout his career, netting 281 goals. Lineker made his England debut in 1984, earning 80 caps and scoring 48 goals over an eight-year international career, finishing as England’s second highest scorer behind Bobby Charlton, before he was overtaken by Wayne Rooney. His international goals-to-games ratio remains one of the best for the country and he is regarded as one of the all-time best English strikers. He was top scorer in the 1986 World Cup and received the Golden Boot, the only time an Englishman has done so. He is also the only player to have been the top scorer in England with three different clubs (Leicester City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur). Even more amazingly though is his disciplinary record. Not only was he never sent off – in any type of game – he was never even handed a yellow card!

Damien Duff
The Irish winger enjoyed a long career in the Premier League, turning out for Blackburn, Chelsea, Newcastle and Fulham before his move to Melbourne in the A-League. Despite playing an incredible 632 games – netting 83 times across 18 years – he was never sent off by a referees red card. The 100-cap Republic of Ireland was never even sent for an early bath on the international scene.

Raul Gonzales
Spanish legend, Raul was never given a red card during lengthy career. The legend earned almost everything during his incredible career at Real Madrid – and for his nation. He won the La Liga title, the Champions League, the European Championships and the World Cup to name a few. But one thing he never received was a red card despite the number of games he played during his career, turning out 932 times at club level, while adding a further 102 games for Spain.

Ryan Giggs
Welsh hero, Ryan Giggs, played an outrageous 963 games for Manchester United, including 672 in the Premier League and 157 in Europe. Yet the Red Devil never allowed the red mist to descend, and despite his 24-year career, he was never ordered off the pitch. The one tiny blemish on his otherwise spotless record was when he was shown a second yellow in the 86th minute of his country’s World Cup qualifier against Norway, but that is not enough to tarnish his unblemished club record.

Philipp Lahm
German star, Philipp Lahm, the former Bayern Munich star was never been sent off in his career. He played his entire career as a defender – occasionally deployed in a deep-lying midfield role. Clearly his job for the team is to get stuck in, but through 613 club appearances – plus 113 international caps before his 2014 retirement – he has admirably never seen red.

Michel Platini
During his career, Platini played for the clubs Nancy, Saint-Étienne, and Juventus. Despite primarily serving as an advanced midfield playmaker, he was a prolific goalscorer; he won the Serie A capocannoniere award three consecutive times between 1983 and 1985, and was the top scorer of Juventus’s victorious 1984-85 European Cup campaign. Platini was a key player of the France national team that won the 1984 European Championship, a tournament in which he was the top scorer and best player, and reached the semi-finals of the 1982 and 1986 World Cups. He played a total 655 game without getting a single red card.

Karim Bezeema
The all-time French top scorer at Real Madrid and in the La Liga has played 649 matches under his belt and has never been sent off. A skillful, quick, agile, and prolific forward, who is good in the air, Benzema has been described as an “immensely talented striker” who is “strong and powerful” and “a potent finisher from inside the box” with both feet, despite being naturally right footed. In addition to his goalscoring, Benzema is indeed known for his willingness and ability to drop into deeper or wider positions, and either link-up play with midfielders as a number 10, or use his strength and technical ability to hold up the ball to provide assists for teammates, courtesy of his vision, creativity, passing, and eye for the final ball.

Aaron Hughes
The former Newcastle and Fulham defender amassed 455 appearances in the Premier League and has collected 103 caps for Northern Ireland without ever warranting a red card. Hughes believes: “When you are sent off, you are instantly the loser.”

Andres Iniesta
He is another player whose career has been garlanded with trophies at club and international levels, and yet without a single red card. Iniesta has made more than 750 appearances for club, Barcelona and country, Spain

Joao Moutinho
Joao is another player with an amazing disciplinary record. The 30 year-old midfielder has made 153 appearances at Monaco adding to his 140 at Porto, 259 with Sporting and 94 for Portugal, that is a total of 663 professional games without seeing red.

Luke Young
Traditional full backs are always susceptible to being penalized for your tackles. But it’s Like Young is different from the others. Eventhough he spent most of his career with teams who were fighting to avoid relegation, he was always one foot away from a red card. Young is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender. He began his career at Tottenham Hotspur in 1997, before moving to Charlton Athletic in 2001, where he spent six seasons.

Alessandro Del Piero
He has an amazing career that lasted more than two decades from 1991 to 2014 and culminated in being part of the world Cup winning squad in Germany 2006. His quick pace and amazing skills were his clean tackles and cool head which meant that he didn’t pick up one single red card.

Ledley King
He was not just a great defender, he was a great footballer. Balanced, athletic, and skillful, he could pass better than plenty of midfielders and read the game to perfection. That’s why he could go his whole career without being sent off and he has never been shown a red card.
